Thanks for the pics! According to the resident techies, Majesco's Model 2 has great audio/video so getting one would be your best bet when it comes to Model 2's.
I'm assuming that Sega stopped Genesis production in late 1996/early 1997, and handed over production of the remaining Model 2's to Majesco, after which they produced the Genny 3 for them.
Makes me wonder if Majesco was planning to re-release some of the games advertised in the back of the box.....some already were in process of being re-printed by Majesco, while others ("Phantasy Star II", WTF?) never were.

Although, the article suggested SOA was consumed with the production and distribution of the Dreamcast, so they basically handed over the Genesis operation to Majesco and basically said 'we're happy just taking royalites'. As much as I truly appreciate you providing that helpful source, I find the above statement really hard to believe. First of all, the article never explicitly stated that there were a verified 150,000 Majesco Model 2's produced. Instead, the article suggests that Majesco projected that it would sell 1.5 million Genesis's and that 10% of those projected sales would be the Model 2 shell. Again, I really appreciate the article, but it does not answer questions like: How many Majesco Model 2's were produced prior to 1998? How many were sold? Since it was so late in the life of the Genesis by1998, perhaps Majesco revisited its idea to produce 150,000 Model 2 shells and instead produced almost entirely model 3's? Also, because the article erroneously cited 1998 as the first year that Majesco began manufacturing the Genesis, I think it loses some credibility with its other stats, specifically its projections...I just cannot imagine that there are 150,000 of these in the wild. Since I stumbled upon mine I've searched relentlessly to find others like it. I have not found a single Majesco MK-1451 Model 2 since.

Exactly, not all were manufactured in 1998. In fact, I think the majority of the Majesco Model 2's were between late 1996 and late 1997. Maybe the very last ones were manufactured in 1998. I wish I would have taken a picture of it when I had the chance, but I believe I saw 1997 printed on mine. I can't recall though. I'll have to wait til next time I'm home to find out for sure.
