STAR STRIKE question

So I just picked up a used copy of Star Strike, which never saw an official release until Good Deal Games put it out a few years back. I have been looking for a copy of it off and on for years, so I was pretty happy to snag one for a reasonable sum. I quite enjoy a lot of cheesy FMV games, and this one supposedly has brain eating aliens and star wars style space combat.

The only problem is I can't get the damn thing to play!:)
The cd (it looks like a cdr with the back of the cd being blueish) only has a few light scratches, but nothing too bad. I tried it in my model 1 sega cd and in my laseractive but neither worked. The model 1 would actually (right after I put the game in) it would automatically eject the game like it was bad milk or something. This is my first Good Deal Game so I'm not sure if the copy I got is messed up in some way. Should the sega cd be having trouble reading cdr's or do I need to install a mod chip or something?

Fire up Kega Fusion (don't forget the Sega-CD BIOS files for it) and pop the disc in your PC. See if it works there before you do anything else.

And no, you don't need to use a mod chip to play backup CD-Rs on a Sega -CD. Just choose the slowest speed your disc drive can burn at, and they should be fine. Oh, and use Imgburn to make them. It's pretty reliable from all I've read.

I've noticed with GDG releases that they don't appear to work on model 1 units. Every one I've tried failed to load in them, but when I put them in my model 2 they would load up just fine.

That is bizarre. It seems like if this were the case that more people would have mentioned the incompatibility issue online. I haven't actually checked to see if anyone has mentioned it online tho. After trying to get it to play a couple of times my model 1 started acting crazy. It would do the thing where it automatically ejects the disc, except now it was doing it to my official games too. I started to freak out thinking it had killed my model 1, but after powering it off and on a few times the issue went away.

Since I don't have a model 2 I will probably do like Coop was saying and see if it will play in fusion.. Man the shock of thinking this game had killed my old faithful model 1, it was like getting a phone call telling me my mother had been eaten by wolves. I wasn't prepared to handle it. Thoughts of trying to buy another one off ebay only to be duped into buying a scratched up one that barely works turned my blood cold.

Model 1 is said to have more problems with CD-Rs and stuff like GDG uses. It shall work fine in a model 2.

Model 1 bios is pretty damn screwy, even in EMU land.

I've never had problems with it in Fusion (and I use it by default) . . . can't comment much on the real hardware since I haven't used many burned discs yet. (Pier Solar's disc doesn't read right though)
However, Arnoldthebartender's model 1 CD seems perfectly fine with all his burned games . . .
