In my opinion, Final Fantasy VI is the best. The first 6 Final Fantasy games were the best ones, VII, VIII, and IX were okay, but everything after IX was garbage.
can we keep to normal numbers instead of Roman numerals. sorry but im a spaz when it comes to them
6 is indeed the best, after that I'd pick 4 and 5, I'm a sucker for the classic sprite look.
although i havent played every one i think 7,8,9 were the peak of the series, after that like eddiespruce says the series goes downhill.
1 and 2 didn't age well
3 is rather nice.
4 is great except for the part where the main character gives up his badass armor.
5 never played, seems to be complex but good.
6 is the best, it's a turn-based random encounter rpg that's fun for people that usually dislike them (like me)
7 is good.
8 is garbage in both gameplay and story.
9 is good, supposedly, since I've never played it. From what I've seen, seems to be true.
10 has good gameplay and graphics, but one of the worst storylines and main characters ever. Auron rocks though.
All the others seem utter trash to me.
FFI will always be my favorite. I prefer the Wonderswan version with the original spell system. I don't remember if the PSX version usrs MP like the GBA version, but it made the game too easy. I haven't played the PSP version yet, but it certainly looks the best.
After finishing FFIII the first time, I thought that it was the best Final Fantasy and I'd either finished or played thru most of FFI - FFIX at that point.
I'd have to play them all in a row to pick the best now. FFIV PSP looks amazing.
I've only ever played through FF4 and FF7. Since FF7 doesn't have an ending I prefer FF4. I also enjoyed playing FF4 more. FF6/3 drove me crazy with its meaningless dialog and so did FF7. I've tried to get into FF8 repeatedly but the long dialog and even longer fights turned me off. I own FF1 and haven't seen the charm in it yet. I'd rather play Dragon Warrior on the NES, or Miracle Warriors on the Master System.
I spent the most time with 4,6,7 so I guess those are my favorite. I never liked the graphics and character designs from part 8 and it was quite a shock to play that game being so used to part 7 because it was so different.
BTW, what was the reason 2 and 3 were kept in Japan for so long considering 1 was so successful in the US and 3 was successful here and they didnt bring V over either.
FF 6 is my absolute favorite, followed by 4 and 9 :)
If you guys are interested there are mods out for FF7 and also FFT that increase difficulty greatly

6,4,3
7 (+ International), 1, X-2. Followed by those I may someday give another chance: 8, 11, 9, Tactics.
FF7 already contains its own difficulty increase which is to play the entire game with ATB on Active, meaning there's no thinking time between actions, no action break while spells warm up or inventories are pawed through. I suspect this is how the game was designed to be played before a latter and inevitable toning down through the optional Wait setting.
Yeah but the enemies and bosses are still too weak even with barely no grinding. This patch fixes all that. Making enemies and bosses much more powerful and more hp, aswell as all party members hp and stats reduced by 50%. Many more things have been nerfed to make the game more balanced.
