A total of four Street Fighter video games were released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System from 1992 to 1996. Which is the best and which is the worst?
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (1992)
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting (1993)
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (1994)
Street Fighter Alpha 2 (1996)
While Street Fighter Alpha 2 is my favorite SF game ever, the SNES port is painful to watch and play. So I vote Turbo: Hyper Fighting. Great game and great port. Also makes World Warrior irrelevant.
New Challengers - I don't like those four new fighters at all. I prefer any SF2 over any Super SF2.
IMO, Turbo on SNES, Special CE on Genesis, and CE on PC Engine are equally the best 16-bit console Street Fighter games. Alpha games are 32-bit stuff and that SNES port was a mistake.
I agree with the transvestite, Alpha 2 on the SNES is painful. Turbo/SCE/CE is the best on all platforms, but mainly because I can play Champion Edition and ignore all that wonky weirdness of Turbo if I choose to. I think Super is okay in either version, probably better than World Warrior on SNES. World Warrior on SNES didn't age well in my opinion, even the sound engine is inferior to the other versions as indicated by the voices cutting each other off.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 has the best looking graphics out of all the SNES ports, however the animation quality and music quality aren't as good as the other SNES Street Fighter games. The game also has an inconsistent frame rate and the controls just don't seem as responsive as the previous SNES ports.
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers has updated graphics from the previous SFII games as well as the greatest amount of game modes, the latter of which adds to the fun factor and replay value. I think the character roster is the best out of the Street Fighter SNES games. The music, while not as good as SFIIT:HF or SFII, is better than the music in Street Fighter Alpha 2 in my opinion. The controls are slightly better compared to the previous SFII games and are more responsive than the controls in Street Fighter Alpha 2.
I'd say Turbo for the best and Alpha 2 for the worst. Fitting Alpha 2 on to the SNES was an achievement but one cut just really blows it for me: the music. My god, it sounds as if they had about 2K of cart space to fit the music into and had to make everything out of single cycle samples or something. SFA2 had some really great tracks and they are completely murdered here. That, combined with muffled sound effects, speech, and pauses at the beginning and end of each round, really spoils it for me.
I haven't played enough of Alpha 2. I tried it briefly back in the day when visiting my Brother in our hometown and he didn't believe that Akuma's super could be pulled off. I managed to do it on my first try, but the game did feel different than the Saturn version. I was nonetheless very impressed by the feat of getting it on SNES. Otherwise, I've played the rest to death-

I still play Alpha 2 now and then and I'll take it over Alpha 3 on the GBA any day.
I've noticed that the SNES port of SFA2 seems to be well regarded by a lot of people. I have no idea how anyone can like that castrated hackjob of a port. It seems to be one of those cases where a bad game gets a free pass simply for being on the SNES, like Starfox. I cannot understand why that port was made. It's mind boggling. Anyway, here's my list:
1- Turbo
2- SSF2
3- WW
4- SFA2
I think that it has more to do with the fact that it's impressive to have a port of SFA2 in any recognizable form on such a weaker platform like the SNES. Same with Starfox and Virtua Racing MD. It's neat to have something that's uncommon due to technical limits.Quote:
