I'm actually more curious if he'll redesign the look of that Saturn to something more.....fitting.

Wow that is absolutely awesome! I've been waiting for years to see someone make one of these. Good show my man, good show!
Is this for sale in any shape or form? Also, are we being careful to make sure the Genesis 2 has good audio and how did the 32X get an S-Video mod when that hasn't been perfected yet?
The Genesis in there is a VA3 HAL Model 2, so no worries in the sound department.
As for S-Video, most likely the RGB outputs from the 32X were run through a separate video encoder circuit(probably with a CXA1645) and the S-Video was taken from that circuit. If not, then it was done straight from the 32X's video encoder/overlay/underlay chip. Still am not quite sure why the S-Video out of the 32X is so blurry. It seriously looks like Composite with no rainbow artifacts(but there still is some smearing).
@ Thunderblaze16: Not too different. The 'CD door' area will be raised up about 1/4" so the CD spindle shaft and CD mech. will fit. I've been going over several ways to get around or do it different. Think it will look pretty good (hopefully lol). Aside from that, the changes you saw in the pictures; modding the cart slot and adding the 32X dust cover doors, changed the front controller port (holes) to fit the DB9/Genesis controllers, removing the original A/V panel in rear under power socket and making a new one that has comp., left & right audio and s-video. Also added a small exhaust fan in the rear where the exp. door cover was.
@sheath: I wasn't too careful hehe, I kind of used what I had. The other Gen.m2 I had was a VA0 :)
I believe all the sound is generated in the Genesis, but the are some CD sounds which is why I used the RCA left and right outs on the SCDm2 as the outputs.
So far sounds pretty good. I'm not sure if using the SCDm2's RCA stereo outs will give you better quality? ...maybe someone could chime in that knows a bit more on the quality of the SCDm2 RCA audio outs.
Yeah, I spent a bit of time looking around at getting s-video from the 32X. I've seen a couple ways of possibly doing this. One using another CXA encoder as Ace mentioned (haven't tried that yet). The other is using 2x amp. transistors with 2x resistors from IC12 chip on the 32X (currently trying this one). The Image is a lot crisper & clear than composite but I am getting some light vertical lines(but only on some LCD screens?) Will probably try a few different things as I go along (or try the CXA method).
When I put the video up, I'll do some comparisons of both.
I'll put up a pic tonight of the 'raised' cd door area that I'm working on.
t
Here are some pics of the 'raised' part of the CD door...still not done. A little more sanding and buffing out.
Then attaching the hinges and the open lock mech of the door.
Also have a design to go on the cover of the door. Let me know what you think of the name, etc... :)

Ooh I love the name Sega Fusion. Great logo too. The only thing I'd suggest is to change the Genesis font to the same one as on the Sega CD and 32X parts, it looks odd having a different font IMO.
Man this is one epic project.
I like it! In fact, if I weren't so in love with my model 1 tower of awesome I'd be willing to pay for one of these.
Awesome idea and execution!
I'M THROWING MONEY AT THE SCREEN AND IT'S NOT WORKING!!!1!!!
You know, we should combine the powers of all the SMS, Genesis, SCD, 32X, and Saturn Homebrewers to come up with a Genesis/SCD/32X/SMS on a chip that could then go into the MPEG card slot to allow a standard Saturn to play Master System, Genesis, SCD, and 32X games. Though an adapter would be needed to use carts.
Honestly if Sega would have done something to make Saturn backwards compatible after it launched, I think that would have been how they would have done it.
But then you would still be able to play Saturn games. If I remember correctly the MPEG slot is connected straight to the VDP bus and can allow you to expand the system however you want, which would probably work perfectly for an adapter for Genesis/SCD/and 32X stuff.
It's a shame you have to use the model 2 with inferior sound, anyway to get a model 1 sound chip in there?
