Why was it not released in the US and is it better than the NES Batman ?
It's garbage.
Indeed, it is garbage. Stick to NES Batman.
I just watched a video review and the guy gave it a positive review. I was shocked to find it was Japan only.
How can it even be compared to NES Batman? It's more like a Bomberman game.
I found an interesting quote on this game:
"many will argue that this is the best pc engine chip music ever produced!"
Hmmm really ?
I'm googling as many reviews as I can find and Ive found a few positive ones.
Note that if you're looking for something on the internet, you'll almost always find it. In this case, if you're looking for positive reviews on something you'll probably find at least one person in the whole wide world who loves it.
For PC-Engine reviews my first stops are normally The Brothers Duomazov and the PC Engine Software Bible. Both of them seem to give it pretty average/middling reviews, so it looks like it might be worth your time.
Oh God, that looks lame as fuck.
This has been a problem since the 8-bit generation. Once major genres were established, the average person and unfortunately developers, expect all games to fit within predetermined genres. Otherwise a game is only a 'crappy' version of the closest genre someone thinks it matches. It also carrys over to themes and licenses. A fantasy style game should have questing and gun toting military dudes must battle through an action game.
"Gekisha Boy sux. Contra is a much better run n gun."
"Blood Gear is garbage! I played it for five minutes and you can barely move and only have one gun!"
"Genji Tsushin Agedama is the worst Sonic game I have evAr played. There aren't even any loop-d-loops!"
"WTF is Bakusho Yoshimoto No Shinkigeki supposed to be?"
"Ai Cho Aniki is gay!"
This is a big part of why the PC Engine is so underappteciated. The library has way more originality than MD and SFC, but fans of other consoles are only concerned that there aren't any good beat em ups or run n guns or think that it only has shooter games. Someone recently commented how the PCE library sucks because it can't compete with MD and SFC in any genre except for shooters and possibly street fighting games. Nevermind all of the original PCE games that there is nothing like on the other consoles.
Nobody is piping in to criticize NES Batman for sucking as a maze game, but somehow the PCE version is supposed to suck somehow. I guess another problem is how blindly people follow reviews. Because there aren't many well known PC Engine review sites out there, a negative review from someone who either doesn't understand a game or didn't actually play through it properly, speaks loudest.
Batman is considered a good game by most people in the PC Engine community, even by people who were disappointed by their hardwired expectation of the genre it should have been in.
Yeah PC Engine Software Bible was the site where I found out about the game.
^^ I hope he isn't trying to deny it. Don't you just love fake quotes?
Geez, this game is anything but garbage. Yes, it does not compare to the Nes game (which I beat BTW), but it's still a fun little puzzle game.
The trick to enjoying this game is not losing--didn't anyone watch spida's review?. Once you power up, it's a fast paced action puzzler.
I am repping black tiger. well said buddy.
It's not spectacular but I like PCE Batman. A lot of people seem to have an aversion to maze chase games that don't have Pac-Man in the title, unfortunately.
I love bomberman and that doraemon game. Batman is just too repetitive and if you die once it becomes so boring it's unplayable.
The music is kinda nice, it certainly sounds good, but the compositions are rather shitty.
Blood Gear is an amazing action RPG, the people that don't like it probably never figured out you can buy weapons and stuff.
I got stuck in a place and couldn't figure out how to pass it so I never finished the game.
