Let's talk about joysticks.

I ordered this a few days ago and it's on its way. Will be posting pictures when I get it. Will be using it mainly to play Street Fighter III - Third Strike on Supercade and emulators, and when I get my PS3 fixed or get a new one, SSF4AE and more.

What joysticks do you guys have on your collection? Which one do you find to be the best? Maybe you have an all time favorite?

I've always liked the look of the NES Advantage and the standard Neo Geo AES joystick, too bad I won't be able to afford a Neo Geo anytime soon, but I know that someday I'll have one. Hell, I've been wanting a Dreamcast since it launched and I only got one a few months ago. Same with my N64.

If you guys are interested, I found a VERY interesting page, that might as well be the Ultimate Joystick Encyclopedia as far as I'm concerned. It has details on EVERYTHING that makes a joystick, and extremely detailed diagrams of projects to make your custom made joystick. Don't just take my word for it, check it out.

Let's hear it from you guys now.

The Advantage is great; the only stick I've ever used exclusively for everything on the system (back in its era; now I use pads for some games).
OEM sticks for Genesis, PS and Saturn. Seeing as on Genesis I only play EC anymore and that seldom the 3 button suffices. Not much into SNES but the Capcom stick's the one I go with there.

Why couldn't the JB King have come to America? I wanted one of those so bad.

I own the following:

generic DE9 2-button stick (Tac 30, labeled as "for Commodore and Atari")
Genesis 6-button arcade stick (Sega)
Saturn Virtua Stick
Saturn Twin Stick
Dreamcast Twin Stick
PS2 Virtua Stick
Wii Fighting Stick (Hori)

I hardly ever use them, but they do come in handy at times. They're all (apart from the Tac 30) very good. I have good taste in joysticks.

Those are welcome too. I think there was one for the Genesis to use on Afterburner and Space Harrier.

The greatest Joystick I ever owned, was this behemoth for the Dreamcast. It was this hulking monster, metal, with green buttons. It was MADE for heavy duty fighting game action.

Classic Game Room reviews a lot of joysticks for various consoles:

I LOVE my x-arcade joystick, but Mark's review has me worried about the joysticks over the course of time. I'll take a look over that page you listed and see if there's a good replacement that I can toss in there. As for my other joysticks, they range from fantastic to meh. I love the NES advantage, but the SNES advantage has a strange button layout that I can't get past. My Saturn and genesis 6 button joysticks are solid, but nothing to write home about, and my PS1 ASCII stick is competent when it comes to fighters.

LOL, I just realized most of my sticks are in Mark's reviews...

May I suggest changing your sticks and buttons with Sanwa parts? They are supposed to be the top of the line on arcade parts. That way you shouldn't be worrying about durability and performance as long as you take good care of it.

Thanks for the info! I was going crazy trying to find out which brands to trust! I saw that Mark replaced his with Happ controls, but there were some comments saying the Happ joysticks suffer the same grinding fate, so those were out. I'll head over to Sanwa now and see what I like.

Thanks man, no prob. Sanwa and Seimitsu are supposed to be the top makers of arcade parts in Japan. As far as I know, all arcade machines in Japan (or at least most of them) have parts made by either of these companies. Top arcade stick makers like Hori use them in their top models, with Sanwa having more preference between fans, Seimitsu coming second closely behind. It's a matter of preference, too.

I've read a little about it, and the general consensus seem to be Sanwa for fighting games requiring precise inputs, and Seimitsu for Shmups and other types of games. For example, the Taito Vewlix arcade cabinet has all Sanwa parts, and is used by Street Fighter IV and its subsequent versions.
