I am sort of torn between "Lots of good stuff lots of holes" and "Got what I want the rest is gravy". I chose the later though because I really should stop collecting at this point and only pick up new games to play through and then hock. I find so little satisfaction in gaming these days going crazy collector gonzo doesn't make sense. That is even more true given the economy and my own general lack of a retirement fund.
At this moment I'm pretty much collecting PS1, PS2, GC, and GBA only. I have a few other consoles but I havent bought games for them in a long while.
I'm very happy with my collection atm. Zero compromise has allowed me to build-up my own dream collection. I know there are lots of holes, but it's also 'the journey', as they say.
"Lots of good stuff but lots of holes" fits me perfectly. For the mean time I have quite a few really good games... But also a lot of good games absent from my shelves and plastic bins. I've been trying to fix that but sadly the best games usually come at a high price.
Thats why I buy less and less these days. I'll only take carts only if they are games from portable systems. I hate buying something thats described as "near mint" and it comes with a ripped booklet. I wish I could only buy new/unopended but the prices are too high.
Lots of good stuff but lots of holes
Its been a hell of a year for my sega genesis and super nintendo collection.
I plan to get an ever drive for my nes and n64 later on. That's about it for those 2 systems.
My wii has been sitting in the living room for a while collecting dust. I've been thinking of selling it, but my mom gave to me for my birthday so I'll try to use it a bit more and find some enjoyment out of it.
I also have a dreamcast and a sega saturn but only one game for each cause I don't know any good games for them.
2012 is almost here, I wonder what awaits this new years. :)
--The adventure has yet a long way to go!--
Mine is still somewhat respectable but I had to sell many of my games to pay bills. It hurt at first but so many just sat there and I payed no higher than ten or so for everyone of my games. I still have enough to keep playing for some time but it is nowhere as cool as it use to be. Basically I kept the "players" and sold the crazy sought after stuff, things like my Korean Megadrive and bizzaro Korean PC Symphony of the Night  , that I never really played anyways. I wish I could concentrate more on it but I have other things to worry about. I just like talking about the old days.
My collection has gotten to a decent spot for my purposes, but there are some systems now with libraries and accessories that are new to me and I fear that there are some games and add-ons, I just will never own a physical copy of. Being that I'm a stickler for for owning games I truly enjoy...that thought is a bit of a damper. I guess I'll just have to suck it up and be happy with roms when needed.
On a bit of a plus, I recently found a Gamecube component cable that wasn't quite as insanely priced as they normally go for.
I've got plenty of good stuff across multiple systems with some of the holes in my collection being filled by the various flash carts I have and burned copies. There's quite a few games I want to pick up for the various consoles I have but not a whole lot. Some of my systems like my Amiga 500 and MSX2 I haven't payed much attention to though, which is something I hope to rectify next year. I'd also like to pick up an SG-1000 II and maybe another Japanese computer like a PC-8801 or an X68000 next year, depending on what my funds look like by that time. But overall I'm fairly comfortable with what I have now.
I'm not really a massive collector, I could imagine a massive collection would be a dead weight to me, since I've got many other interests that already demand a lot of time and space, particularily Guitars and at times gaming is eating into those other hobbies funding and time so I'm trying to be careful what I spend and play these days. I remember being 13/14 and literally spending every penny I had on games that are now sadly gone.
These days I mostly just buy cheap Jap Saturn games off evilbay and any good deals on PS2 games from local Game/DVD shops, I scored R-Type final for £1.50 at the weekend for example.
I could imagine in the next year or so having to make another cupboard though, the DVD's are pilling up and I at least intend to step into beefing up my Dreamcast titles and start getting some games for my recently aquired Megadrive, though I may wind up just putting the cash forward for an everdrive for space and money saving.
Did anybody ever tell you I'm tight?
I choose the first option.
I have a few complete collections and then a few that are mostly complete with holes in. When it comes to the Megadrive I only really buy games I want to play because the library is so huge.
I havn't really bought anything for a while now except the odd MD game because I just didn't have the money but I would like to expand my Jap Saturn and TurboGrafx collections a lot more.
"Lots of good stuff but lots of holes". I'm tending to buy games I need of late, over games I want; good for the collection, I suppose. When cash starts flowing again, I'm gonna be buying a few new consoles and start collecting games I want again.
Got what I want, the rest will be gravy
Pretty much that. I set out to build a very specific collection that's now reached a 99% completion status. Very few new releases, a few rare games for the Neo Geo/FM Towns/Famicom and maybe hidden titles pointed out by friends are what I still have to go for. Aaaand racing games with split-screen mode - they're getting rarer, you know?
My gaming time is fully booked for the rest of my life. :)
"Lots of good stuff but lots of holes" because while I do have a huge collection, I'm missing a ton of classics.
It's hard for me to vote on this one, since I've been having a bit of an existential crisis with my collection recently. Both my wife and I love videogames, but I'm a bit heavier on the drive to collect side than her, and there's a lot of stuff that I've gotten recently that I haven't had a lot of time to play/catalog/sell off dupes of and it's kind of burning me out. (but no worries, I'm not planning on selling stuff anytime soon).
We both still love games, but for me it feels like a bit more of a burden than it had previously, especially since we're thinking about having kids soon and that'll definitely change our way of life. Part of me is torn to continue picking up the games I want because I might not have as much random cash for old junk in the future (plus prices seem to continue to rise on all retro stuff), but the other half of me knows it doesn't hurt to squirrel away more to make sure I've got plenty of cash once we do have kids. After re-reading that it seems kind of heavy to dump in this thread, but I'd say that yes, I am happy with our collection. However there's always another neat game out there to find and play. ;)
For me, I think it's all in my signature - time to play. I spent the better part of 2010 and all of 2011 modding, collecting, bartering, trading, and God knows what else trying to fill in all the gaps in my childhood, and I've finally come to a point where I can say, 'OK, I'm good, let's see what these systems have to offer,' and be comfortable with that. That's not to say I'm going to stop looking for a Neo-Geo, be it AES or MVS, since that's still my holy grail, nor will I turn a blind eye to any systems I may have missed (portables are a good example of this - I simply don't have many of them), but I think it's definitely time to tone it down a notch or 12.
Nothing will ever be enough. I want everything, and until I have that I will not be satisfied.
I marked Good as Gravy as the only 3 games I want are Bio-Hazard Battle, Pulseman (probably never going to happen), and Jaguar's Alien vs Predator.
Aside from missing those games I'm doing pretty good.
22 systems and close to 2000 games, but I still need TG-16 and 3DO...
It could be better. I have a lot of what I want, but there's a lot of room for more stuff. There aren't a lot more SNES games I want, but I'm still looking to expand my Genesis/CD/32X collection. There's a number of Gameboy and PS1 games I want to buy. There are more consoles that I would want to get, but that's going to be down the road.
You have a high chance of getting the other 2 but for pusleman, what you should do is every time you get your pay check, put a side $5 or $10. In no time, you'll have an extra $100 for that sweet pulseman copy.
I don't think I'll ever get into the neo geo territory since each game for it has the price of a new wii system basically.
Lots of good stuff but lots of holes
I was looking at a Saturn but then decided to get more Shooters for my current systems - MD, SMS and NES. If work improves and I a better bonus than I expect come April then we will see.
I'm insatiable! Nothing will ever be enough!
I see my hobby of collecting and playing video games as a life long hobby. I don't want it to end one day, at least not in the near future. So I buy quite few games, maybe once per month or so, so I can suck on this caramel for many years to come. I only get rarities or games I want to play. I often think I'm done with the rarities, but then something "new" or different that intrigues me pop up and I throw my cash on it. The list of games I want to play grows sometimes, decreases sometimes, but never ceases to exist.
How happy am I with my collection? Very happy. The journey is more fun than the destination...
I voted got what I want.. I'm happy with my collection as it is so far. There is still a few critical games I am missing for some systems, but for the most part I got what I want.
I voted "Video. Gaming. Ecstasy." because at this point I feel like I have so many games that taking any opinion other than "I am content with what I have right now" would be kind of selfish. Sure there are games I want to get rid of and games I still want to buy, but really at this point I have enough games to last a lifetime just about.
Now if I could just get around to playing them instead of wasting time on my laptop...
Lots of good stuff but lots of holes.
There will always be that one game I'm missing from my collection, but my little gaming room only has so much space. I'm getting to the point where I may have to get rid of the large amount of gaming magazines I have stored in bins. I doubt I'll ever read through old Game Players magazines anytime soon. I'm not about to get rid of the old issues of Gamefan, Next-Gen or EGM though.
Just waiting on my Sega Saturn complete Bootleg II On the Road demo to arrive and everything else will be gravy!
I'm actually very pleased with my collection. I don't have shelves full of games, but I have most of the games I need for each system I own.
There are a few holes left to fill in my Saturn, FM Towns, X68000, and PC Engine collection that I need to fill in.
"could be better" I collect across alot of different systems but my main focus has been nes and sega genesis, I'm happy with what I have for those sets. I've begun expanding out with the sega cd and I have a respectable collection going there with alot of the titles I wanted to get so far but I want to go for a complete set. The Saturn is another console I've been diving into, especially the japanese imports. So far I have the fighters and shmups I wanted to pick up like Hyper Duel and Batsugun, so it's all good but I always want to add more as the paycheck allows.
Im very happy with my collection ive picked up a lot of nice items in the past few years, but my collection is far from complete, systems wise i nearly have everything i need but buying the system is the easy part is buying the games and its not easy to collect for practically every format.
I'm satisfied. I just recently downsized and am pretty much going cart-only (most of my good games were bought that way before I started going "collector" and getting things boxed). There may be one or two games I'd like to pick up, but I have all my favorites and it's all going to be gravy from here on out:) I want to do less buying and more playing. I have about 70 Genesis games and honestly, there's countless hours of playtime there alone.
I actually have most of those "hard to find" titles that I had wanted for "years and years" at this point. I think there are maybe one or two games that I would nab if I found for a good price, but I don't actively look for anything these days.
I think I've reached my saturation point by now. I've got most if not all of the classic titles that I set out to collect. I can be proud of most of the things that I own. My collection is big enough that shelf space is starting to become a problem. But on top of that, I play less and less games nowadays because of work and all, and with spare time being a scarce commodity, I don't want to blow it all on something non-productive like playing games. In other words, keeping up the old pace of collecting would mean that I'd only buy games for the sake of collecting and not for playing, and that is something I've always wanted to avoid. I still like playing a game every now and then, and so I still buy one every now and then, but I think the whole collecting phase is over now for me.
"Lots of good stuff but lots of holes."
i'm a gettin' there, slowly but surely;

((NOTE: Wii developed disc drive issues - have since replaced with newer model black body version, which lacks all GAME CUBE/GC controller support- (SUCKS ASS)
-plan to eventually repair original GC-compatible Wii by self-installation of a replacement disc drive assy.))

My Sega console box collection is great but I need more top of the line titles for the Genesis. I have more quantity than quality but I still have a good amount of great games. I could use more NES titles though.
I pretty much have everything I want on Sega Genesis, Pc engine, and Snes. I want a Sega Saturn and Dreamcast and collect for both.
