I've decided in wake of wrecking the screen on my GBP during modding to get a GBA SP with the backlit screen. I don't know much about the console's library other than the Mario, DKC, and Pokemon (basically whatever the one on display in Walmart had playing). Can you guys tell me which games are worth getting? Preferrably ones that won't break the bank. I'm not too much into RPGs other than Phantasy Star, so toss out FF or Mario & Luigi or Pokemon. Are the Mega Man Zero games good?
Get the Phantasy Star collection. They arent perfectly emulated but Id still say its worth it. I'm a beat em up fan and I'd recommend TMNT, Final Fight One, River City Ransom EX, Double Dragon Advance, Advance Guardian Heroes, X Men: Reign of Apocalypse. I'd also say get the Castlevania double pack which has the 2nd and 3rd CV GBA games on 1 cart.
Most of the games for the system, as well as the GBC and regular GB games can be had relatively cheap. The system has some excellent Castlevania titles, the ones which play like Metroid. There are also two Metroid games for it. Splinter Cell is pretty fun. They did a good job of translating that to a 2D format. You've got bunch of first person shooters, a couple are crap, but the rest are really good. There are a number of good racing games for it. Gadget Racers being one of the most fun. I could go on for hours, but won't.
For beat em ups, Double Dragon Advance and River City Ransom EX definately arent cheap. Advance Guardian Heroes is though.Quote:

Oh whoops, don't like RPGs, then I guess forget Golden Sun, but still get Tactics Ogre(It's a tactics game, with just some RPG elements, so It's not really a RPG).
I've heard good things about the Castlebania games, so you may like them as well.
PS. You don't have to worry about prices, because even the best, most desired games for the GBA are cheap.
- Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (awesome mix of pokemon with a tactical game, this isn't your typical pokemon game)
- Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission (one is mission based and story driven, the other is an incredible remake of the first metroid)
- Golden Sun, both of them (you don't like RPGs? you will)
- Castlevania Aria of Sorrow (the other two aren't great, this one is almost there with Symphony of the Night)
- Metal Slug Advance (it's a "crappy" metal slug, but it's still metal slug, and totally awesome)
- Fire Emblem (excellent strategy game)
- Summon Night - Swordcraft Story II (it's an RPG, but the battles are action sequences in real time, like the Tales of Phantasia)
- Blender Bros (A charming platformer where you have a "pokemon" following you that gives you some ability)
- Medal of Honor Infiltrator (Top Down shooter, pretty good)
- Sonic Advance 2 (an above average entry in the sonic series, nothing on par with 2/3/CD, but good)
- Tactics Ogre as mentioned
- Gunstar Super Heroes (not as good, still good)
- Legend of Zelda Minish Cap (it's zelda)
- Megaman Zero 4
- Megaman Battle Network (RPG, but the battles are in real-time action)
- TMNT is a pretty good beat'em up

Phantasy Star Collection is nice, but the first game tends to crash randomly. This is a problem with every cart, some programmer made a mistake, so if you get it, make sure to save your game frequently. Other than the great games that have already been listed, check out Gradius Galaxies, Zelda Minish Cap (it's by Capcom and it's awesome), Contra Advance, Super Dodgeball, the Earthworm Jims. Heck, they even ported Doom 1 & 2 to the GBA. There are tons of ports of great NES, SNES and Genesis games.
How could have I forgotten about the two Advance Wars games. Those are some of the best TBS games I've ever played. I'd rank them right up there with the Civ series.

I would have also suggested Mazes of Fate, as it's a nice throwback to the old dungeon crawlers, but you don't like RPGs.
Whoops, how could I forget the remake of Shining Force resurrection of the Dark Dragon(aka shining Force 1), It's also very good(and way better then then the original).
If you're a fan of Dragon Ball, you should check out Legacy of Goku II (avoid the first one!), Buu's Fury, Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure, Dragon Ball Z Supersonic Warriors and if you can put up with it, GT: Transformation.
