The gameboy advance has the best library, plus all the gameboy library, and it's an awesome portable system (the GBA SP specially).
EDIT: Ok the NOMAD might win in the library department, but not against the combined GBA+GB libraries.

GBA for the reasons already stated. As cool a concept as the Nomad is, it isn't that great of a machine. It's too huge, battery obliterating, and has a blurry screen. It's probably great when it's modded, but the average joe isn't likely to do that.
Personally, I've always found the original GBA more comfortable to hold. If it had a backlight, it would of more than likely been the most popular variant.
I luved my Nomad when I had it but good grief that thing was so bulky and it ate batteries. I could actually carry around my Neo-Geo Pocket and GBA in my pocket. I have yet to own a GBA SP and I really want one.
You can't vote for the GBA - it's not a "retro" handheld. It came out in 2001 - voting for it as a "retro" handheld would be like voting the PS2 as the best "retro" console. :p :D
So ignore any votes for the GBA.
Exactly. Its like those Transformers fans who love very "meh" figure molds, because of their kit-bash potential. Your average buyer/collector doesn't kit-bash, so that "plus" doesn't apply to anyone but that select few. Same goes for a console/handheld's mod-ability. I've only ever modded one console in my entire life, and that's because all I had to do was put a spring in the door peg, and a dongle in the game-shark port.
why isn't this awesome retro handheld on the list?

Because it was a buggy piece of shit, with a battery life shorter than the Game Gear.
GBA SP, I win
Honestly never heard of it
I didn't include the GBA SP since it doesn't have it's own games and it's not quite old enough. GBA barely makes the cut. IMO 10+ years is retro, in most cases. I wouldn't consider PS2 retro even though it came out in 2000.
No love for the Game Gear???
I'm going with Game Boy specifically, I have a deluxe Game Gear bag full of GB stuff, so many great games on that system. GBA is a bit too new so I'm not going with it. I don't feel there's enough GBC exclusive games to make me pick it.
I have to say the Gameboy Color. I used to carry that around with me at all times! I have fond memories of playing Dragon Warrior III while on break at college :) and it's those memories that led me to choose the GBC over the GBA.
