Don't forget, he doesn't know about many of the best games for the system.

many ppl here (myself included) have been playing SMS for 25 years...
spending an hour, or even a week playing ROMs on an Emu isnt gonna give you that experience.
:)
I don't see the harm in emulation, it's a great "tool". Hence, that's why I choose the Xbox1 as the system of my choice - it can emulate nearly every one of those machines (and more) on the poll near enough perfectly. I still prefer real hardware, but sometimes emulation is better.
I'm of the opinion that no major game consoles suck. Not a single one. Every big-name console, from the 5200 to the CD32 to the Jaguar and everything in between has a few titles which make the console worth owning. It doesn't do much good to simply label everything as shit based off of a few hours playtime.
You have to get into some real obscure consoles to begin finding consoles out there without a single redeeming game. Stuff like the Gamate or the Super Cassette Lady Vision... those are the kind of consoles and handhelds without any redeeming games. Beyond the hyper obscure, if you saw ads for it in magazines, it probably has at least 1 gem worth checking out.
I have 32 game systems, and I wouldn't say a single one of them is totally devoid of quality.
Case in point - I picked up a GP32 back when they were first released. Most would assume it doesn't even have an official library of games, but it does. Stuff like Tomak! Save the Earth Again, Dungeon and Guarder, an incredible port of Pinball Dreams, and Blood Cross are all worth owning in their official forms.
I don't like the 5200 controller, but IMO it's a minor problem because they sell adapters which lets you use a standard genesis controller on the 5200, with a 5200 keypad laying beside for access to the numberpad. With such an adapter, the 5200 becomes a much better system.
It'd rather have an Atari 8-bit though, namely an 800 or an XE.
I believe the Atari 400 and 800 computers have standard RFU output for televisions.
I'm pretty sure the XE models had composite.
Bit late here, maybe the SMS sucked in America?
I know it was very popular in Europe and Australia (just incase people forget there are other countries on the planet).
My first console was a SMS2 that I mowed an absolute shit load of lawns to get and I didn't get it until '93! I know the Mega Drive had been out for years, but it was I could afford (I was in high school still) and my parents said anything like that I need to pay for myself. I absolutely loved the thing!
People's opinions will always be varied, but for me, it is the case of shrugging my shoulders if someone saying the SMS is a POS.
Out of the list here though tough choice, I own all but 2 (Neo Geo and TG16). The N64 doesn't interest me all that much (if at all), maybe (from MY experience)
1/Playstation (I remember in my late teens early 20's staying up very late at night playing this)
2/Dreamcast
3/MD combo
4/SMS
5/Saturn
6/SNES
7/NES
8/N64
For a lot of these systems I don't have a lot of games hence the order. For me the SMS will always have a special spot as it was my first (lol).
My brain votes Playstation
My heart votes Mega Drive
Well... yeah, based on personal opinion, I think the Phillips CD-i was a console that did, indeed, suck :p. Granted, the general idea of combining Media Center and gaming console into one device was great, and far ahead of it's time (The CD-i tried in 1991 what nowadays has come full circle in the form of Playstation 3 and XBox 360, or already with PS2, Xbox and Dreamcast if one wanted to be picky)
However, it had some of the most uncomfortable and unresponsive controllers ever conceived, the library of games was very limited, the few big-name titles were pretty bad... and while it had a few games one could call halfway decent (though those were mostle FMV games like Braindead 13 or the games produced by American Lasergames), it definitely lacked a killer app that would have helped it further down the road. Granted, I haven't played every game in the library, and I don't own the system, though I played a couple of rounds at a friends' house. From my limited experience, I'd say the best games for the CD-i were also available in better versions for other systems (like Flashback or The 7th Guest). The exclusive releases mostly sucked or were, at best, okay (though I somewhat enjoyed the Pinball game). Based on all these observations, I'd still say that the CD-i pretty much sucks, and from what I've experienced I have no intention of exploring that specific system any further. (The only point left to argue over would be whether or not one would count the CD-i as a "major" console :p)
On-Topic... only one System? Tough call. Out of the available choices, I'd say Genesis (honestly, putting up this question on a forum called Sega-16 is a bit more than superflous, no? It's more interesting to see which systems come in second or third in that poll, so I am kinda surprised that the PSX actually ranks BEFORE the Dreamcast! Which would suggest that among the Sega fans visiting these parts, apparently the PSX is held in higher regard than any other non-Sega console, and even the DC! Just my interpretation, though... ).
Though I do have to admit, leaving out PS2 and XBOX but including the Dreamcast into the poll DOES indeed make it a little biased. I like both the PS2 and the Dreamcast, the former because of it's huge library of quality games, the latter for its still ongoing and innovative homebrew scene (in picking the DC you'll have the highest output of actually new games when compared to all of the others). But given that the Dreamcast is the newest console and belongs to a younger generation than any of the other consoles on that poll, it would have been fairer to include PS2 and the original Xbox as well, which would definitely have mixed up the outcome somewhat.
/btw, when I was a little kid, in the days before the Mega Drive was released? I thought the SMS kicked the Nes' ass! Just my 2 cents ;)
