Anyone else bored with collecting?

I can't be the only one? I guess RL took over, or maybe it got boring or too mainstream? I miss the days when I was able to focus a lot on it, and even though money was limited and I wasn't able to drop a lot of $$$ on it, like I am now I really enjoyed it. Maybe the fact I can drop a lot of $$$ killed it?

I collected quite a bit from 2001-2006, come to 2007 I joined the service and only bought a few games, even though I went to basic at the end of the year, due to me focusing on school and working, but I went buckwild before I went to basic training and bought quite a bit. Then until early 2010 I really didn't buy much, even though I could have but I really didn't care too much and was living on base and had limited space. Then in 2010 I bought quite a bit of games after I moved into my own apartment then and came back to it, and last year (when I really stopped posting here quite a bit due to RL and I didn't really like the big change of the forum with the new board but meh whatever) I bought a few more games and pretty much got everything I wanted along with a couple of holy grails. Earlier this year I bought some nice imports and spent some serious coin (Laseractive games and SF3 for Saturn last Nov)

I am moving to Florida soon, and who knows I might really get back into it, or stay the same?

Its not that Im bored with it its just that I'm older now and I'm less interested in it. I have other interests and priorities at this point.

I would gladly sell my entire collection to anyone willing to buy it off of me. But, since no one would ever drop enough to do so, I'm stuck with it... pot committed. Hopefully I'll get to sell it off sometime in the near future. Though I wouldn't know what to do with my life if I ever did rid myself of it.

Definitely, I am bored sick with it. For the last year or so I have only bothered to pick up things I might need for videos later. I am trying to figure out if I am just done with gaming, or if I have simply become a casual gamer. Mostly I am content with keeping everything I can remember playing and enjoying when the systems were still on the market.

I am more about reminiscing about the good old days than I am actually collecting. I still pick up games when I find them cheap actually does happen from time to time still. I always have refused to dump lots of money on my games. That does not seem fun to me.

Same here, that was always my reason behind collecting.

I'd see a game on ebay that I rented a couple times back in the day, I'd buy it and play it once and then on the shelf it went.

I too am bummed out about collecting though, guess I got all the good stuff already.. or just the stuff I had a connection with.

I am not bored, just not interested all that much in the present. I think I will take some time off and pick up more Saturn games.

After I have all the shmups I WANT for the Saturn, I will be buying what ever I want to play for random systems every now and than. I won't be actively seeking out games for the sake rarity or collection.

I mean, I don't want to sound like a hypocrite, but collecting to me is pretty much pointless. You will be leaving everything behind after you fuckin' die. What's the point? I feel people miss this important fact of life, and this is the reason why I laugh at hardcore collectors who work their ass off to collect 3000 fuckin' video games and fill their room. They won't revisit 80% of these fucking things in the course of your life because they have too many games in their collection to replay (looks at happy console gamer).

I have come to terms with this reality and I am not crazy with collecting as I was. Sad but true. Call me a weirdo, but I can't take this shit to afterlife (if there is such thing).

I think there comes a point in most gamers' lives where they realize that they have more games than they can ever possibly play, and start to evaluate if the money/time investment is really worth it. I still collect a little here and there for a couple of systems, but I've hit a wall myself. I mean, I love playing the games, but when I might play 5 hours a week, I've realistically got enough games to last me the rest of my life.

I was organizing a few weeks ago and I realized more than half of my PS2 games either had been barely played or were still sealed. I haven't bought any PS2 games in a while, so these have been sitting for years waiting for me to get around to them. I don't plan on dumping my games, but I'm getting to the point where I just don't care to "collect" anymore, I only want games I'll really play and enjoy. No more buying a "decent" game for 10 bucks because it's on sale, I don't have time for "decent" games, I'm going to stick with only the games I really love. I may not even buy the next generation of game systems, which is weird coming from me since I have everything.

Exceptions to the rule: Neo Geo and 32x. I still collect for those! Also, I'll probably buy any portable system that looks halfway decent, I love portables!

I'll never be bored with collecting. There's so many games out there that I don't own, and when I scrape up some money, it always goes towards video games.

Not only will I be collecting video games until I die, I would some day like to have the largest collection of video games on the planet, and that's going to take a very long time. And I'll never sell any of it, not one game, regardless of any financial situation that could happen.

I honestly have nothing better to do with my life, than to collect more and more video games.

I "collect" games that I know will get the most play time and not be thrown on the shelf and forgotten.

There's still some games and a handful of systems I'd like to get, so I haven't grown tired of collecting yet. Having flash carts for a few systems has significantly slowed down my collecting for certain systems and have even allowed me to stop collecting for the pre-crash consoles, but that means I have more time and cash to devote to other stuff, like getting my Amiga setup off the ground and saving up for an X68000. I'm also not out to get a ton of games, just the ones I actually like playing, so there will come a time when I'll stop collecting and enjoy all the games I have. There's a good chance I'll still be into gaming when I'm old and crusty, but I'll make sure my collection winds up in good hands after I'm gone.

My collecting is more or less about getting things I wanted when I was younger but couldn't get due to being a kid. Pretty much every time I got a chance to get a game for my Saturn or Genesis my brother always made sure it was a sports game. The few non sports games I got for it were ones my parents got me for Christmas or my birthday and those were Sonic R and Sonic Jam. I have no desire to have a huge collection full of games I have no intention of playing, I just get games that interest me or that I wanted back when I was a kid but couldn't get.

Ironic, I am enjoying the hell out of it. After learning so many things last year like the history, hardware, unknown titles, mostly of the sega genesis. I gotten a collection I never expected to have so soon. Right now, I'm targeting boxes and manuals for my loose snes carts.

I'm not going for a full collection but a collection of games worth playing.

See, that was me in my early twenties. I finally had a decent job, and the internet was thriving at that point. I was still pretty poor, so I couldn't buy every new $50 game, but I could buy pretty much any and every old game I had ever wanted. I bought pretty much every SNES and Genesis game I had ever wanted, and picked up a TurboDuo and Neo Geo.

Now, at 32, I'm not rich, but I'm comfortable and I really can buy pretty much all the games I want (except for Neo home cartridges.) I have almost every major system from the NES to the current consoles, with literally thousands of games. The games that are too rare or expensive I can play through flashcarts or emulation.

But, it's just too much. Collecting takes too much time and money, I have more money but I have little time. All these games take too damn much space, and it's depressing seeing a stack of games that I want to play, but don't have the time. And usually when I do play, it's my favorite games that I've already played a million times, since it's easy to get into when I don't have the time or energy to learn and master a whole new game.

I've seen it happen to dozens of my friends, I didn't think it would happen to me, but it did. These friends usually ended up selling their whole collections, and just play Xbox live games or something like that, and are happier for it. I'm not at that point just yet. I do find tremendous joy in tinkering and modding the systems, however, which I think is keeping me in the game a bit longer.

I'm not exactly bored with it, but sometimes I feel like I'm being a little irresponsible with my money. I have so many games that I've barely touched, but whenever I come across a game that I'm interested at a great/good price I have a real hard time passing it up. I think my new years resolution should be to start being more selective with my game purchases, probably.
