Your top 10 beat em ups of all time

1. TMNT (arcade)
2. Final Fight
3. Double Dragon
4. Streets of Rage 2
5. X-Men (arcade)
6. TMNT: TiT (SNES)
7. The Simpsons
8. Golden Axe
9. Aliens vs. Predator
10. River City Ransom

This was very tough and I struggled with the order. The reason AvP is so low is came out AFTER the "golden era" which was 90-92 and that hurt it IMO. I put FF ahead of SOR 2 because FF came first and it set the standard and benchmark for which SOR 2 and all others tried to achieve. Same reason why Double Dragon is so high because it set the standard for all similiar games to follow.

Well, I loved Streets of Rage 2 and River City Ransom, but I can't think of 10 right now. I know a lot of beat em ups were in arcades, but all the arcades in my area were shut down by 1986, so I wasn't able to experience it.

This Isn't the Tactic/RPG, platformer or RPG genre, having a top 10 list is a bit overkill for the Beat'm up genre, since it would be hard enough to pick 5 you love in general, and would actually still play all five, not just a few of them).

the arcade Battle toads game(the one ported to the SNES, not the one on the NES).

I thought about including one of the D&D games but I decided not to because I already have Golden Axe for 'hack and slash" and the rpg elements take away some of the simplicity a beat em up is supposed to have. Both D&D games are excellent though.

This is stupid. Capcom alone has bunch of great ones. Plus, there's no reason at all for modern ones like Bayonetta to be excluded from the genre.

Putting a modern (3d) beat em up in a list of top beat em ups of all time is blasmephy.

Yakuza games are more than just beat em ups but if you wanna include them then thats your right. To me hack n slash ARE beat em ups and arent seperate.

Does Alien vs. Predator qualify as a beat-em-up? I have it on Jaguar, and it is definitely a FPS, not a beat-em-up as I think of the genre.

Here's my list. Classic 2D style only, since I wouldn't consider newer 3D games to be of the same genre.

No more-so than River City Ransom. I mostly focus on the arcade-style fights rather than the RPG/mini-game/open world elements.

Spider-Man & Venom Maximum Carnage at 1 is very ballsy. Its a game a lot of people dont even consider to be good.

Id rather leave RCR out of my top 10 due to the rpg elements but I was really struggling to find a game to replace it with.

Alien Versus Predator in the Arcades, and the stripped down butchered SNES version, are beat-em ups.
