Younger kids and their opinions on retro games.

How about us? Can we play any older games than ourselves and have fun with them? Can one stand a Channel F game or any arcade from the late 70's? How about Atari 2600? I grew up in the NES/MS/Game boy generation and i find it very hard to enjoy Atari 2600 games. Even when i was a young kid i found these games too primitive and not too interesting (But i had no choice since it was the only console we had until i had enough money to buy something better). Then again there aren't many generations of games before the time we were kids so we only have the most primitive games as an example.

Yes, yes I can, though of course there are some that are just too old (you can barely make out anything), but Pacman, Space Invaders, Centipede, Frogger, etc.. are still fun to play.
Frogger 2 for the Atari 2600 is excellent in particular.
I won't make a collection of games for those super old systems, there's not much point in it since you can get better versions on newer ones that lose none of the charm, but still, give me an Atari 2600 with Frogger 2 and I'll have a blast.

Yea same here, such games are still fun today, Frogger, centidede, pacman, exc are still awesome fun. Oh yea, lets not forget breakout, and to make things even more epic, the 2600 has the best controller ever for games like that(you know the wheel controller, the faster you turn it, the faster you move, It's a shame they don't make such a controller for the new systems, which have ports, clones, and spin-offs of the originial breakout).

Well, i will assume that you guys are less than 30 years old and you don't have childhood memories of Atari2600 games being good looking and modern. In that case i guess the answer to my question is definitely yes then.

all young peopel I know or have known through the years absoilutely loved all the retro games. especially the dreamcast. I have a cousin who is now 15 but 10 years ago he saw me playing shenmue and he still talks about it today

edit: before reading the rest of this topic I will asusme it is going to be a negative topic with people saying young kids of todya don't appreciate or know or understand the old and other bullshits.

Ok I reread it, took it differently the first time, I'm 32, however I didn't get a NES when it first came out, I had a 2600, now the thing is, even thogh the NES had better graphics, and even clearly better games overall, I still had no problem playing the 2600(and to be truthful, didn't even have a big desire to own a NES until DW came out), even though games like SMB was plastered all over the TV every 15min.

However yea it did come off that way, as like I said, such a reply would usually be geared towards people that claim they can't play X or says such games suck.

edit: after reading through here. it's very normal for young kids to not KNOW old games and systems. however my experience is that once you show them they actually love them. because they are a lot simpler. if you show anyone lightgun games on saturn and dreamcast they are sold. talking about people my age is the same thing. many years ago some friends visited me while I was playing nights. they laughed at the graphics and I gave one friend the 3 controller. 10 minutes of silence later and he simply said. wow...

right now I try to spread sega systems, especially dreamcasts around my friends and share my passion and love for these games. my best girlfriend right now is playing shenmue and she nearly finished it and LOVES it. especially looking through all the drawers and riding the forklift. how ironic 10 years later...

I gave Sonic Mega Collection to my cousin who was about six at the time in 2009 for Christmas for their Wii, and he played it every day for four months.
His mom said she honestly beleived he wanted to be Sonic, and often said he wished he could run as fast as him.

He is now a huge Sonic fan, I was there the night before last and he said he just finished Sonic Colors and it was the easiest Sonic game he's played.

It's cool that I'm the one who introduced him to Sonic The Hedgehog.

My youngest son (10 years old) loves retro games, especially side scrollers like Sonic and Mario. My 13 year old has a N64 in his room, but rarely plays it. He also makes smirky comments when I try to get him to play any of my old school games. Then again, he'll want to play them sometimes. He's an odd one, but that's a whole other issue. LOL My 14 year old has a Genesis in his room and he plays it occasionally. I won't let any of them keep their Gamecube & Wii in their rooms as they still don't understand they can't leave discs laying around. I have to constantly get after them to put them up. Cartridges on the other hand isn't a big deal, so that's why they get a system in their room.

You seem like a level-headed young man. I tell you what, learn to embrace the good with the bad. But, most importantly, enjoy the rest of your childhood while you still can.

My youngest brother, who is seven, actually enjoys games both retro and modern, as long as they're fun for him. He doesn't care about graphics or sound like other kids his age; he cares about gameplay.

And it was kinda weird when he asked me if I could install Activision Anthology on his PC. Never thought he'd enjoy that too! (I bet it was because of Pitfall!)

Then, my slightly younger bro is like that too.
