What? I don't really want to click on that link since I'm at work.
Hope they kept a backup..
Was this a previously frequented site? 'Never heard of it.
They had a section where users uploaded & posted ISOs and ROMs, i'm not sure if it was the biggest but they had a huge database with many, many relases.
"Snesorama (aka SOR) might be back soon. But we will no longer provide any illegal files, as I dont wanna risk jailtime or getting sued for millions of dollars, or even worse, EUROS!
I was going to shut down entirely, but I figured, we could just have the legal forum part up.
So I'm going to, if all goes well, upgrade VB, and restore the old database. The main difference being that the trade post will be gone.
SOR will be hosted by nitroroms.com, which is, as of today, 100% for certain, the best ROMs provider.
btw, if it says "download" below, dont click it. Its ADVERTISING silly :9"
Outside Russia, they were the biggest for ISOs and stuff.
They also had some rare things, like a section only for FM Towns ISOs.
CIA put them down. Got it.
Snesorama was gutted when the FBI took down Megaupload, since the vast majority of Snesorama's game ISOs and ROMs were uploaded there. Regardless of what you say about the legal side or piracy or whatever, the loss of Snesorama is both staggering and sad. The site's ISO Trading Zone was a Alexandrian Library of rare games for everyone to enjoy and experience. Many of the games uploaded there were not available anywhere else on the internet.
that really sucks, they had some very rare titles in their database as well as alot of hard to find open bor dreamcast homebrew games :(
Sites like that helped keep the obscure stuff alive including a ton of games that will likely never be re-released commercially again. It sucks that current copyright laws make so many things technically illegal to download even if the owners don't care about trying to sell them anymore.
Exactly (I really like you, bro.).
Megaupload's doom also fucked with Snesorama's Russian brother, psxplanet.ru. It also had tons of rare stuff, mainly for PSX but for many other systems as well. Snesorama main uploader was always there, downloading and uploading stuff. They were like brothers, really. But psxplanet had like 99.9% links only from Megaupload.
In terms of PS1 games, Snesorama had only 80% of what psxplanet had. It was a huuuuge letdown. It took years and years to copy and archive many rare ISOs, some might be lost forever since some disks just went lost.
psxplanet was really like paradise for PS1 owners, if they didn't have the ISO it was almost surely that it was one of those few undumped titles... And no, even torrents like underground-gamer don't have the same games.
FBI broke my heart man...
Exactly. They had things like a homemade arranged soundtrack version for Double Dragon 2 on the PCE CD.
FM Towns ISOs were a big lost too... Some of those games aren't on torrents...
This.
The most valuable games in such sites and servers weren't "hot" stuff like PS3 or Xbox 360 games... Those old rare limited copies of games had their place there.
Most of the gamers didn't realize the losses, but they were BIG.
Several rare games were form companies that barely even existed one day...
It's really sad.
EDIT: Of course, I'm not talking about games that you can find on eBay, even after a year or two waiting...
:(
retro roms is gone too.
(was bigger than SOR)
