Awesome work! Those stickers can be really terrible, glad you got them off allright!
Awesome job, man! I can't believe you saved that manual.
Congrats on getting it cleaned off! Once you get used to removing stickers from games it opens up a whole new world of purchases because "beat up" items can be restored to their former glory!
Thanks, I was burning my fingers every now and then from the hot air just to keep them from flying away, lol.
Congratulations on getting the stickers off!
Here's some rep for a job well done!:)
Nice dude, I need to do that to a Grindstormer I have with stickers all over the place. This gives me some motivation.
That's amazing, nice one. You should flip rental games on eBay.
Keep it dude, I wish I could find one in the wild, Well I have the Japanese version loose
Rep'd you also
Probably increased the value on that quite a bit.
Those stickers on the box/manual didnt look too bad, I normally stay away from rentals though. The worst thing is when they put those "metallic" stickers on anything else other than the cart.
Nice job getting the stickers off. I agree with Sheath that hot air gun beats blow dryers for rental sticker removal, and stay away from Goo Gone or alcohol on manuals and boxes if at all possible.
Something else: Did you take the security screws out of the cartridge casing and look inside? Often, I have found that rental outfits put magnetic strips inside the game carts to thwart thieves. You might want to take a look inside that game cartridge.
I've often wondered how much success these rental places had with their myriad of stickers back in the day. I mean anyone could create a bogus rental account, rent a few good games, and keep them, removing all the stickers with a heat gun and some Goo Gone.
EDIT: Nevermind about the cartridge. I watched your video.;)
How long did it take to get the stickers off??
Around 20 to 30 minutes, it was the "$20 charge if not returned" rental sticker that I took the most time on. You think at first it wouldn't come off cause it's so stuck in there. Wetting it a bit with some Windex, then using the Hair Dryer at high for about 40 seconds, that thing just popped off on one of the corners. That's where I started slowly peeling it off, as I kept using the Hair Dryer on it.
I think a lot of places would only give you an account if you had a driver's license or something that was actually traceable. Most places now will only rent to you if you have credit card on file as well.
Remember, back in the day you couldn't just go on the internet and pick up a gamebit so carts were also considered a bit more difficult to open. In fact, one of the reasons Nintendo switched from regular screws to gamebits is because people would buy new games, swap the PCB with a copy of Mario Bros, and then return the game to the store. The move the the much less standard gamebit screws was a big deterrent. That's also why you see rental stickers go over the edge of the cartridge casing where it comes apart, so they could see if the rental was possibly opened to swap the PCB as well.
