Also, since I last posted in this thread, Valve has filed a patent for a controller:

The idea is that parts of it can be swapped out to customize the controller, including replacing the analog sticks with trackballs for games which use mice. That sounds awesome.
The Apple CEO may have just been having a meeting about Steam on OSX or possibly putting it on iPhone or something. That's a lot of speculation. As for "Working on Valve's Next Gen Hardware" that could mean anything. He could just be working on building a system to support a new Engine they are working on so they have ideas for minimum requirements. Let's just wait until Valve comes out and says flat out that this is what they are doing. Speculating on vague tweets and people who are seen entering the building is about as useful and accurate as my saying Sega is merging with Nintendo because I saw a Iwata talking to someone at Sega or some BS like that.
The person who tweeted about working on next gen hardware is jery ellesworth. she is not a programmer. She ONLY does hardware - she's one of the foremost experts on chip design, all self taught. At 11 years old, she reverse engineered the C64 in its entirety and built a clone. She doesn't do software, if she's brought in to work on a project, it's to build the hardware.Quote:

Hopefully that controller is just an example and not an image of the finished product, because right now it looks very sue-able.
Next Gen hardware is vague. As I said she could be working with them to design a minimum requirements system for a new Engine or something. It does not say "I am making a next gen console for valve".
Again, you seem to be unclear of what she does. She doesn't design systems or anything like that. She creates specialty chipsets. She BUILDS chips.Quote:

That may be her specialty but again that doesn't say she's building chips in that position at valve. Just because it's her specialty to build and design chipsets doesn't mean that's what she's always doing. She could simply be there consulting with them.
This isn't confirmation, it's speculation. Until Valve actually comes out and confirms this is what they are doing, I'm not going to get my hopes up or buy into the speculation.

The job listing again isn't confirmation. Platform can mean anything, from a new console to simply a common test system to run new software on. They could simply be designing a new PC system to test new engines and rendering code on to get an idea of what would be needed.
Think about it, the Source Engine is almost a decade old now. It makes sense that Valve is probably looking into replacing it with something better. So this could all just be them working on what would be the ideal hardware set up to design this new engine around.
People said the same thing about Gizmondo, the 3DO, N-Gage, the Virtual Boy, the Neo-Geo, and who knows how many other consoles that became niche systems, or outright failures (and that's leaving out the vaporware side of things with the likes of the M2, the SNES CD-ROM, etc.). Right now, it's all just conjecture, speculation and the typical video game :bull: that we've been seeing since the 16-bit era (if not earlier).Quote:

No offense TheSonicRetard but 3DO was a disaster and the fact that so many people made the system made it an even bigger disaster, the system was competing against itself (always a great idea) and NO it had shoddy cross compatibility, trust me, my Goldstar 3DO wouldn't play games my Panasonic would and vice versa, it was a joke of a console that was financed and backed by one of the biggest forces in gaming then, Trip Hawkens & EA. This is no different.
What a terrible idea, and Steam is one of the most annoying concepts ever, I HATE the idea of being forced to sign up to an internet service to play a game I paid for and physically own what a joke.
