Cancelled Streets of Rage Remake

Saw this on Retro and had to post it here. Check it:

Interesting, but I'd rather play a remake with complete redrawn 2D graphics.

That's a very early built indeed; Axel looks likes he has a beer gut on him! :D This could of been something great, but at least there's still Streets of Rage Remix (if you can find it)...

Actually that one is also called Remake, Streets of Rage Remake.

Streets of Rage Remake looks so much better than this. While it would've been cool to have an official new SOR game, I don't approve of it being 3D. Somehow multiple copies of the same enemy look fine in 2D but in 3D it just looks weird, unless they're faceless gasmasked army types like you get in virtually every modern game now.

There are so many great Sega Ages titles out there we never got to see ported into the west. I'd rather they translate Phantasy Star Generations 1 and 2.

I am! but not because this POS got canceled, I'm bummed because SORR got taken down by Sega because of this,
Had they not taken it down we would have got an update that improves enemy AI, right now they are a tad too aggressive.

Also.. Online play could have been implemented eventually, after SORR was released Bomberlink was very tired of programming on SORR,
but I'm sure that after a couple of months he would have been interested again, and looked further into online play.

But because of Sega and their crap remake this will never happen now.

Which reminds me... wasn't Sega making a SA2500 version of the original game and then cancelled it?

Wait, so you guys aren't going to pull some magic and make that Genesis beat-em up fully 3D? Imagine how AWESOME it would be running at 5FPS, way better than anything sprite based could ever manage, because you could have characters walk around each other! Just like Soul Calibur!

I wouldn't be surprised if we did see an official XBLA/PSN/Steam version of SORR coming out from Sega in the coming year or two. And Spikeout: Battlestreet was a great 3D brawler. Sheath will back me up on this one; I bought it because of his site.

Spikeout: Battlestreet has a better group fighting mechanic than the new Batman Arkham game's. The problem is, it isn't as accessible and punishes the player by causing them to lose the fight more often than the Free Flow mechanic does. Golden Axe Beast Rider took this even further with the parry evade mechanic, and people absolutely hate that game (while citing the storyline of course). I was a little bit disappointed over how absurdly easy Battlestreet was online though, the AI or the online databandwidth just couldn't handle two players in the same setting.

Grin's SOR looks like ass in those screens but it's a real shame the developer closed down. I loved both of their Bionic Commando games. I don't understand the backlash against the 3d one.

I can't say that I would be thrilled if this game was released in 2009 or after. In my humble opinion, some game series should not be updated. The Streets of Rage series is a perfect example. I'm afraid that the 3D visuals above do not capture the essence of the character. The color scheme is too dark and the background lacks clarity.

I'm actually liking what I see there conceptually. The AI would have to be better than demonstrated, but I liked the way the attacks looked.

The first looks it still in the beta stage so you can't say to much on that. The other one does look kind of cool to me. Tho I maybe i'm odd bc if i want to play classic SOR i pop in the cart and play it. i don't want a remake to just be the same thing with some crappy AA added for 5-10 bucks.

Who would want something that resembles the original in name only ? Why does this have to be called "Streets of Rage" ? It does not look like Streets of Rage reimagined as a modern 3D game. This looks NOTHING like Streets of Rage. Nothing at all. Given that is the case why not give it an original name ? On its own it might even be a decent game.

This is as incredibly stupid as if I were to record an album with some semi catchy pop tunes and release it as "The Return of The Beatles!". I just can't wrap my mind around how pathetic this is. :daze:.

If the Beatles are singing then its true, keep in mind i aint saying alot of people would like it. Like i said before i aint going to talk about the first video as it looks it was still in the beta stages and i never base the full game on a beta. As for the other one it did look a darker more down to earth SoR where the old ones are more anime like, and there is nothing wrong with that I love SoR as much anyone.

I just think its kind of unfair how yall are saying the game is crap when you never even played it. None of us can base the game play of it on that tiny clip and for me game play is center stage with my games. Yes before you say it I know its a full 3D game and not a 2D side scroller. So long as the story is the same and the chars and boss's are the same then yes it is a SoR remake, even you dislike what you see.

Looks like it had potential to me. Sure, it could've sucked eggs, but I would like to have seen it come out. Too few new brawlers these days...

The game doesn't capture the look and feel of the franchise. The original SoR games were fast and fluid. When I look at the video, the problem I have is how slow your character executes moves.

That's true. The video looked like early development, however, as the enemies just seemed to stand around.

That looked pretty cool. I enjoy games where you can go beat up the environment. I wonder if you could go up to that intersection and get hit by a car? That would be awesome.

Well, to clarify: I said "on its own it might as well be a decent game". So ditch the SOR name and I'd probably view this in a very different light.

This is the equivalent of some German dude claiming to have created the one nd only true next Beatles record - while it actually is modern Eurodance with that German dude shouting oneliners with a heavy German accent. If none of the original artists is involved why call it Streets of Rage ?
