Not sure if this belonged in the Haul thread, the Genesis board, or somewhere else, which is why I posted here. :)

I read GenesisGuy's thread requesting a model 1, so I took a look in my boxes of stuff to see what I had, and lo and behold, I found the following:

- A working VA2 Model 1
- A working VA3 Model 1
- A working VA7 Model 1 VA6.8 (see below)

The cases are dirty and mismatched (pulled from other systems), but shit, I didn't expect this. Even if GenesisGuy wants one of the three, that still gives me two systems to mod.

Oh no doubt - I'm well aware of the VA7's shortcomings, but it's also a good test Genesis that can potentially have the CCAM mod done along with the rest of the mods I normally do. Also, I came into a shitload of CXA1645 chips, so I might tinker around with the video encoder, as well. We'll see.

The VA7 has a CXA1145 video encoder (they all do), but the video is a bit dimmer than previous revisions. Yes the VA7 is CCAM 1.0 compatible, but only Tiido it seems knows where all the signal I/O points are. You can also overclock and halt the CPU (Pin 15 for clk input, pin 19 for halt). The big ASIC also has the region settings on it, don't have the pinout on me though.

One nice though about the VA7, is when Sega removed the EXT port and moved all the connectors over to save space, there's a nice gap next to the AC adapter hole, it's perfect for an S-Video jack, you just have to dremel away a brace and then make a hole.

Honestly the only problem with the VA7 is the awful sound amp, which can be fixed. Besides that and the lower overclock tolerance (VA7 can't go much higher than 10MHz), everything else is pretty much like previous Model 1s, except it's all SMD instead of DIP.

LOL, I guess I don't have to worry about the VA7 after all - I cracked it open and it's a VA6.8. Even better.

Heh, so further investigation yielded an additional VA3 model 1 AND a VA3 model 2. It's gonna be a fun week after I get my parts from Digikey...
