It just doesn't feel the same to me, although theres many reasons why TTS doesn't feel quite the same.

Looks like Sega already purchased some domain names. ShenmueHD.com and ShenmueRemastered.com are two of them. Looks like we're one step closer to seeing this become a realization.

Sega would have to be nuts not to do this. Actually, most of their back catalogue is strangely overdue on current gen consoles. Sure, they've been re-released and re-released, but let's face it, there'll always be a market for them.
Ignoring what I said back in 2012 in this thread, I would welcome a HD remaster of both games. I really would. It would make perfect sense for them to release them with the third game on the way - a fantastic way for people to get into the series or get back into it. Not only that, the DC prices have shot up. :ok:
Here's hoping for a trilogy hard copy release.
I would love to see Shenmue 1&2 in HD, so long as they actually do more than just give it an "HD Filter". I would love to see it ported into a modern engine with dual analog control and all that. The controls in the originals were one of the weakest parts of the game (for me).
Seeing Shenmue done to the standards of something even a little older like Yakuza 5 would still be phenomenal.
^ As long as you could switch back to the original controls when you please like you can in the recent REmake and RE Z0 remasters, I have no issues with that.
oh yeah, i'd take 1 & 2 HD in a heartbeat with just nicer graphics, a fully functioning dual analog camera would be huge!
So... I've been reading an interesting rumor, a couple of months old now, that Shenmue HD was supposed to be shown at E3 2017 (even older rumor), but got pushed back because Shenmue III was postponed till 2018 without a definitive date.
Here is one such article...

Lame, I know, but let's keep this thread going. ;)
Shenmue HD is almost absolutely already ready. Suzuki's cryptic "I can't talk about this right now" answer to this question only reinforces this.

IT'S REAL! Every Shenmue game in the same year in HD!

I hope they code it to support VR, imagine Shenmue in VR.
Incoming Shenmue haters to tell you how much they hate Shenmue in 3... 2... 1...
Shenmue sucks.
You're welcome.
Edit:
Not enough hatred? But wait, there's more!
10's of millions of dollars wasted, on a cutting edge cinematic bullshit that nobody really bought across two platforms. A series that introduced the awful QTE gameplay trend, and buried Sega's future by tying up one of their key developers in a money pit, while shit was derailing all around them. A man now resorting to bumming stage time from Sony, so he can bum money via a kickstarter page to get around to finishing his story. The best thing about this announcement is that now the entire Shenmue fanbase (that very likely pirated the fuck out of both games on Dreamcast or Xbox) will finally shut the fuck up, whenever Sega hits social media with any news or teasers.

I am so stoked! Thank you for this.
I hope you can transfer your items from 1 to 2 to 3 like they did with the DC versions. That would be so sweet. :D
P.S.> There is already an established thread about this, though:

Hahaha
Well, Gryson did ask for it.
I generally enjoyed Shenmue. Never played the second, but I got into the first one all right, and put many hours into it. There were definitely a lot of cool things about it, and if you give it a chance, it's easy to get immersed in its universe.
There's no doubt though, that the massive development cost combined with its commercial failure was essentially the straw that broke Sega's back, and put the DC to final rest. It's a shame, but honestly they should have known better than to sink so much time and money into it. Didn't it begin as a Saturn game in like 96? I mean, they tied up a ton of resources into it at a time when FPS and fighters ruled the gaming landscape. Of course this was just one of many questionable decisions Sega made during that period.
Sega Of Japan just announced the Sega Mega Drive Mini scheduled to be released sometime this year. This not the abomination from At Games. This is genuine emulation Sega hardware.

As long as they do it fucking right since the sound seems to be the biggest fuck up from AT games I'll be fine with it. Please Sega do not fuck this up!
This would be very cool... if it turns out like the SNES mini in terms of quality.
Just, please, no made-up mediocre16-bit games this time. And also the sound, like Bonuskun said. I imagine it will not play cartridges, it being a "mini" and all.
Sooo stoked!!!
SII on Xbox came with a second disc with the movie and footage of the Saturn game. Shenmue began in 1994 as a story with a young Akira before being turned into a new IP.
I am going to do something I have never been able to do with Shenmue. Play it with Japanese audio. Yakuza has made it where English would not feel right in a game like this.
I will need to see the games running before I even consider this thing. SEGA sucks with these things.
Is it likely to run SD cards? What I'd love most is a console from Kevtris into which I can put my Mega ED without a level shift problem.
Notice that cartridge slot is too small to fit actual cartridges. Hopefully means they fully focused on the motherboard itself.
Here's hoping it's as good, if not better than the snes classic mini.

HOLY SHIT!!! amazing!! this will mean we can use savefile for shenmue 1 and 2 hd to shenmue 3!! YES!!!!

In an interview with COO Kenji Matsubara, it was stated at the time that "SEGA is exploring the idea of importing (to Japan) the officially licensed overseas Mega Drive remake "SEGA Genesis Flashback", which is currently produced in Taiwan under commission by SEGA for foreign markets".
lol SEGA fucked it up. It's Atgames again fellas.]
Also why the fuck was the Genesis mini topic merged with Shenmue?
Hehehehe! All I gotta say is that SEGA has been delivering the goods for the past 3 years!
PIN THIS THREAD PLEASE! :D (In all honesty, I think that anytime SEGA has a release we should pin the thread in this forum for greater exposure and discussion. This is a SEGA releated forum after all).
If SEGA is really considering extending their branding with the AtGames console, make AtGames go back to the drawing board and fix the issues! I just watched a video a few days ago in which real cartridge based games used on the console froze or experienced serious glitches that broke the game. Even the games included experienced glitches.
Even if it's an officially licenced product, I don't think I would buy the device unless the issues are fixed.
P.S. Welcome back KnuckleDuster! The forum hasn't been the same without your trademark crotchety posts! :p

Everybody's celebrating an experimental game that clearly aged like old dog shit. Even with modern controls and a high resolution, it will very likely be mundane and tedious like the REmake games.
I expect a new generation to fall for the bullshit, pick it up and get blue balls and whiplash at the same time from all the internet hype.
Lol. Thanks BK
2017 is going to be the most amazing shenmue year.
Personally I'm not a fan of taking these 6th-gen games, and then jacking up the resolution as high as you can. So its a combination of late 90s/early 2000s polygon counts, textures, colour depths, with 2010s resolutions.
Should've made these games 900p or so and used fancy upscaling.
Judging by the trailer, its literally the resolution being raised to 1080p and nothing else.
And don't get the idea that I'm not a fan of this, this is the most feasible way for me to finally try Shenmue II.
