If a gaming video is longer than 10-15 minutes I'd rather play a game instead.
CGR doesn't give scores.

AVGN
Reminds me of his CD-i Zelda review, specifically Wand of Gamelon as he covered that one the most. He did not realize that standing still makes Zelda's shield work, which would have saved him several unnecessary deaths.
Despite the flaws of AVGN, I too love watching his stuff, mostly the ones around the time of CD-i Zelda. He really does capture some of the most relatable experiences anyone has ever had with hard or bad games. He's like your older brother who's had more experience with older games than you. Sure, he may not be as serious with video game knowledge and gaming as you, but he's played more games and still enjoys playing them much the same. I suppose it's kinda hard to describe, but AVGN has an appeal that at least some of us had growing up. He really does deal in nostalgia, in its many guises. Try watching any episode where he discusses hardware, like CD-i part 1. That's where I get that odd passed down nostalgia vibe.
What I find particularly odd is the AVGN character mellowed out and became more like James Rolfe as the series went on. The single angriest episode was Batman Part 1, which at this point is an older episode, then there's later episodes like Swordquest where he didn't even utter a single swear word, much less get angry. I don't remember him ever getting angry in The Odyssey, Pong Consoles, Game Glitches or even Zelda II. You could say there are episodes like Bill and Ted where he was very angry and declared it to be the worst LJN game, but he seriously couldn't genuinely be angry for that, again making the later episodes feel tamer and less angry.
I'm glad he wasn't angry for Zelda II, talk about an unfairly hated game.
Although hating Zelda II for being a side scroller is unfounded, most people and AVGN are 100% correct that Zelda II is a brutally hard game with no forgiveness in its difficulty. Not even Nintendo Power can make the game easier. It's the sort of game you need Game Genie or an easy hack to be even half way playable. I wouldn't necessarily say it's right to hate on Zelda II and call it bad for being hard, but it IS hard and that cannot be argued away. Even with level grinding, it can still easily punish you.
Zelda IIs difficulty is definitely unbalanced, but I don't go into NES games expecting an easy time :P
Mr Game Sack
Definitely.
No overrated gaming channels exist. The junk on Youtube is in different genres, like cooking shows, comedy, and crap like that.
The autistic Let's Players really annoy me. James & Mike Fridays, Game Grumps, those types. They never explain or do anything, just scream and make weird nerd noises.
Most gaming related channels on Youtube are overrated. Junk like PewDiePie, Markiplier, Game Grumps, and just so, so much more. I especially dislike incompetent players, and Game Grumps for one is a damn good example of that; they should at least try to put some effort into it. I do admit, I did enjoy Game Grumps' Goof Troops playthrough though.
What we need to do is mention the Youtube channels that are worth watching. Stuff like (and this is all stuff I personally watch) Retsupurae, HideofBeast (mostly for Megaman X), EpicNameBro (mostly for if you like Demon's, and Dark Souls), Penguinz0, Console Wars, Game Sack (of course), various speed runners from SpeedDemosArchive (especially because you can watch them stream from SpeedRunsLive), and Tool Assisted gameplay from TASVideos. There are probably some I am forgetting.
HideofBeast in particular is one I would certainly recommend, if you like competent Megaman X gameplay with very good commentary, but don't mind monotone voices. His video's are pretty old, and the audio quality isn't the best, but his commentary more than makes up for it, imo.
I'll link the particular playlists for the curious who don't feel like rummaging through old videos.
Megaman X1-X3
Megaman X4 (He did this one first, and it shows in the commentary)
Megaman X5
Megaman X6
This guy is kind of a legend amongst MMX speed runners, especially for doing X6 without damage, on top of all the other restrictions.
I never got the appeal of TAS runs either. What is the point of playing a video game wrong? In general I just hate speed runs. I want to see and hear a game, not watch someone skip 90% of it and abuse every fault they can find, that is basically a modern Sonic game.
You don't seem to understand the point of TAS' or speed runs. If it's not your thing, oh well, but it isn't "wrong" or anything simply because of some preference or bias. Comparing glitch abuse to modern Sonic games is the weirdest comparison I've heard too.
It is something like "playing the game as indended for so long can become stale after awhile. Let's try something different to have this new experience even though this game is so old." That is basically the players point of view.
^At that point it seems like it would make more sense to switch over to a new game.
