Alien Soldier is awesome but...

I have bought and sold Alien Soldier around three times now, each time losing money. I want to love it so much for it's awesome sprites, presentation, music, speed, etc. but for some reason no matter how much I try I just can't bring myself to really love the game. I think my main gripe with it is the controls. They are not bad or unresponsive in any way but I think I just do not have the patience or willpower to master them. I love difficult bosses but I'm not a fan of complicated controls. I hate how the action keeps moving as you have to circle through your weapons after running out of ammo time and time again. I think I'd also prefer more long drawn out levels instead of the random enemies and crates to jump over that they throw in between bosses as well. Either that or a straight boss rush with no in-between parts. Having to jump around while getting raped by baddies for a few seconds between each boss fight just kind of screws up the pace of the game for me. With that being said, I still want to buy the game after selling it yet again last week as I'm already feeling sellers remorse. I just can't bring myself to fully give up on the game because I know it's awesome yet isn't for me at the same time. I'm just a sucker for style and Alien Soldier has a ton of it. Anyone else have similar feelings towards the game?

I've started appreciating Treasure games a little more, but I'm still more on the Gunstar Heroes side of it. Alien Soldier to me feels like a Contra game, but the ammo's limited. I also prefer levels to straight boss rushes all the time, I've tried to like the game, just can't find myself doing it.

I'm not a big fan of Alien Soldier either, Gunstar Heroes is their masterpiece (though Guardian Heroes is outstanding too).

In my eyes, Alien Soldier is the best game Treasure has ever made along with Radiant Silvergun.

And in my eyes, I love Dynamite Headdy a bit more than most Treasure games. To me that was a very lovely game that had a difficulty spike later in the game, but it started you off nice and easy.

Gunstar Heroes though is my second most favorite Treasure game.

Can't even beat the first boss, chalk that down to the controls, the difficulty or that I just suck at the game. Take yer pick.

Personally my favourite Treasure game is Dynamite Headdy, all of them are so good though.

My favourite Treasure games are the first and second Sin & Punishments, and Alien Soldier.

As for the Controls in Alien Soldier, I found them somewhat complex the first time I tried the game, but they really didn't take long for me to get used to. Same way with Sin & Punishment; it also has fairly complicated controls.

When I'm by my self, I'd much rather play Alien Soldier, because I don't really like playing Gunstar Heroes unless I'm on co-op mode for some reason...

Alien Soldier fucking rules. One of my favorite Genesis games.

I tested Alien Soldier out years ago, and I didn't really like it at all. The fact that the game mostly boss battles makes it very boring to me. I'll stick to Gunstar Heroes.

The problem with Alien Soldier is that the controls are not intuitive and the dfficulty curve is high. And I think that is the reason why the game is sometimes criticized. This game is tailored to those players who enjoy a good challenge. I have to be honest. It is not for everyone.

The first time I played this game, I did not like it. But over time, I've learnt the nuances of the game which has leant to a more positive gaming experience.

The controls are complex but they aren't bad. Only the weapon switching is bad, but you get used to it. It's a difficult game at times, but knowing the best weapon for each boss solves that problem.
