Is It Me, or Does the Nintendo 64 SUCK?!

Back to the topic at hand, I don't think the N64 sucks. During that generation, the N64 was the system I had the most games for and got the most play time. Some of the games I enjoyed were the Turok titles, Doom 64, both Quakes, Castlevania, Killer Instinct Gold (which got a LOT of play between me and my friends), MK4, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Cruisin' games, etc... I never did get into Goldeneye. Having played PC FPS shooters since '93, I didn't see what the big deal was. I don't really get into modern FPS shooters. They just don't feel fun to me. Seems like they're trying hard to be too realistic and takes the fun out of it. I enjoyed the old school FPS where you just run around and blow shit up. I still play the old school FPS shooters (currently going through the SNES wolfenstein!). The only modern FPS shooter I liked is Duke Nukem Forever and that's because it has that 90s FPS feel to it. Doom 3/ROE is alright, though I had more fun with Doom 1, 2 & 64.
I played the PS a bit during that generation, but rarely bought games for it. I only have around 10 - 15 games for it. Did rent a lot though. The Saturn was unavailable to me during that time period. Did get one around 2003 and loved it ever since! The only downside to the N64 was the graphics. Those smeary/blurry polygons still haunt me. lol Though I guess you can say it gave the system it's own unique look. Anyone remember seeing the Killer Instinct arcade and it proclaiming the game would be on the Ultra 64? I don't think a game looking that good ever did grace the system.

The entire early 3D generation was, and still is, pretty uninteresting to me. There are gems and many innovative titles from the time that I truly enjoy though, and I would never say the N64 sucked despite not liking it much personally.

After the 16-bit days I focused most of my attention towards PC gaming until the Dreamcast hit the scene. My memories of the Playstation and N64 will always first and foremost be ugly graphics and awkward controls. The majority of that era is hard for me to stomach.

Just because you may not like what it has in it's library is no reason to call the system a horrible pointless machine.

Bloody Roar Primal Fury was a Gamecube exclusive and the first Gamecube game I bought and its worth getting if you like fighting games IMO.

Crystal Chronicles was one of those games that I used to really try to defend back when I was a stallwart Gamecube owner, but really, deep down I always knew it was a big disappointment, I really can't even bring myself to call it a good game anymore, on 1 or 2 player its actually quite tedious to be honest, on 3 or 4 player its quite cool though.

Generally its just too repetitive, and its lacking the sort of sweeping plot you'd expect from the Final Fantasy series.

In regards to Soul Calibur 2, as far as I can tell the only reason to pick the Gamecube version over the Xbox is because you can play as Link instead of Spawn, which seems pretty subjective to me, I have no interest in playing the game as either character, and from what I've heard the Xbox version is both the only one to support 720p, and the only one with Dolby 5.1 sound

I feel the same way. I sold it pretty quick and dont regret it.

Crystal Chronicles is pretty terrible IMO. It was just a ploy to sell more GBA link cables.

And most people agree that Link is a more fun character to play as than Spawn. Sure the Xbox version runs at 720p, the Gamecube version still looks nice at 480p.

I have to completely disagree. Nintendo made wonderful strides with the Wii by improving upon many (not all) shortcomings of its previous two consoles.

Nintendo doesn't need to keep up with "today's" standards though. Rather, it has to improve upon its past offerings and compete with its self. Wii has shown how it can dominate a generation even with sub-par performance.

This game was ported to the Xbox as Bloody Roar Extreme, they added extras to it too.

No, most Zelda fans agree Link is better, fans of Spawn say Spawn is better, fans of the arcade game have no interest in either.

At the end of the day, as far as I'm concerned the graphics and sound are better on Xbox, whilst which character you prefer is subjective, sure people have a reason to say they prefer the GC version, but I don't think its fair for you to simply state it as fact that Gamecube has the best version of the game.

It's usually agreed upon around the gaming circles that the GameCube version is the best.

Spawn as a Videogame character kind of sucks. I didn't like the Dreamcast game, that's for sure.

Many magazines agreed that the XBox version was the best, and amongst hardcore Soul Calibur fans Link, Heihachi, and Spawn are all banned for tournament play anyway.

Personally I dislike the inclusion of all three characters, I find them to detract from the games overall aethetics and art style, they just don't fit in with everything else.

The Xbox version may have the technical advantage, but the Gamecube version is generally considered the best version of the game, because Link is the best exclusive character of the three. Link plays the best and is the most fun to play as when it comes to the three exclusive characters. Spawn was boring to play as. As for Arcade Accuracy, the Gamecube version is still pretty close to Arcade Perfect. If I remember correctly the arcade version only ran at 480p as well.

The n64 was a great system and set the standard of having 4 controller ports that xbox and DC picked up on. Multiplayer was really fun with 4 friends in the same room and on one screen

Do you live in the middle of nowhere? I have never heard anybody complain about the sound of disc drives so much.

Saying "disc drives make noise" is the worst argument against any console ever.

I wasn't complaining about the sound of the disc drive but overall noise levels. The Xbox1 is really noisy even without a disc just because of the cooling fan. The Dreamcast is quite noisy without a disc spinning in it, but has an exceptionally loud drive which increases the noise levels even more. PS2 noise levels are ok but the drive is a bit noisy. Gamecube is the most quiet of the four and also has an exceptionally quiet drive. NONE OF THEM ARE TOTALLY NOISELESS LIKE THE N64

Yeah maybe I'm extra sensitive to noise / audio issues. I do live in an apartment which is quite quiet and it's really something I appreciate. On the other hand image quality issues don't bother me nearly as much. I have all of the mentioned systems, and all them connected to my TV and in use.
