Is street fighter II the best sequel EVER?

This is true, Sengoku 3 is a huge improvement over the first two. The Neo-Geo got a bunch of mediocre beat 'em ups early on in its life, but none were too great -- none could match the great beat 'em ups of the day like the TMNT games, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Final Fight, etc. And then after the early '90s, the genre disappeared on the platform in favor of fighting games. The only later Neo-Geo beat 'em up is Sengoku 3, and it's by far the best beat 'em up on the system, and yeah, is a legitimately good game.

Don't forget that Sengoku 3 wasn't originally developed as a Sengoku title and only had the name attached before it's release.

That explains something, but still, as I said, it's not just interesting because it's actually quite good, but also because it's the only beat 'em up released on the Neo-Geo after the early-ish '90s... and I do think that overall Neo-Geo games got better by the mid '90s than they were in the early years.

Early Neo games indeed haven't aged well, but some still have a nice little charm, like Magician Lord, NAM-1975, Fatal Fury, World Heroes 2, Baseball Stars Professional and League Bowling.

Pac-Land also has a glide move and a power-up which lets you fly, which happened in Mario 3.

Pac-Land also allows you to back up. That always annoyed me in SMB. And Namco released Dragon Buster in 1984 as well.

I have Pac-Land for the TG16, are all of the versions the same in gameplay? I wouldn't exactly call that game Super Mario Bros better, much less Super Mario Bros 3. It plays a lot more like Wonder Boy, or I guess Wonder Boy is a lot like Pac-Land. ;)

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying, where does "better" come into it?

and yes, I agree that Wonder Boy plays like Pac-Land

EDIT: I'm not on-topic, if that's what you're thinking, I was specifically replying to you mentioning that there were games similar to Super Mario Bros before it was released.

@J_Factor also Pac-Land has parallax scrolling, pretty cool for a 1984 platformer.

It's sort of like saying that Shinobi and Revenge of Shinobi have a quality gap in the later's favor. I do believe there is such a thing as quality, I just don't like it when individuals think they can say it is or is not there arbitrarily.

Right, I was referring to the specific comment that Super Mario Bros. innovated gameplay elements that it uses. It did not, it is just a unique and high quality game in a genre that already existed.

Yes this is all I was talking about as well, just saying that I think Super Mario Bros is much more like Pac-Land, than any of the Pitfall games.

I do like World Heroes 2 and King of the Monsters 2, but that's about it for early Neo-Geo games... never have played much of Magician Lord, though.

Oh, Viewpoint, Alpha Mission 2, and Andro Dunos are fun as well; the latter two look very early Neo Geo visually, but are fun to play.
