Gaming-related thing you waited the longest to finally buy?

what gaming-related thing did you wait for/covet the longest for before finally buying?

For me it was a Sega Saturn. I really wanted one for probably 8 years before I finally got one. (I can't tell you how many times I almost bought one but didn't because I either didn't have the cash on hand at the moment, or it was just slightly out of my price range) After obtaining it I felt this huge feeling of relief, like I had just completed a long, difficult task. :p

Now I just need a 3D controller and NiGHTS Into Dreams (I've known about that game for almost my whole life and always wanted to play it, never have had the chance to though)

Back in the mid 90's, I wanted a Sega CD and a 32X, but my parents couldn't afford it. Nearly 15 years later, I finally managed to get both on eBay.

Probably Virtua Racing. When I first saw it, it was $99. I really wanted it but thought it was just too expensive. The next time I saw it, it was $79 but I still thought that was too much. I was going to wait until it got down to about $50 then the next time I saw it, it was only $19!

When I was five, I let a friend borrow my Aladdin cartridge, and he later said he broke it (possibly stole it?). 11 years later I found another copy at a game store and bought it so it was like it never left my library.

I'm sure there's a few games but hell, I wanted a Saturn back in the day, and GLAD looking back I didn't get one. Game selection locally was awful, same with the Dreamcast but that was in the dying days of it... like Feburary of 2001 I got one, I can say the same but it worked out again. As for the games, I am sure some may have been cheaper but oh well, nothing went up that I wanted stupidly crazy!

I got a Sega CD when I could finally find a cheap one, that was 2004, and I got a SMS, in 2006 or 2007 I think? I barely remember.

megaman the wily wars, I first saw screenshots of it in a issue of egm around 1994 and was dissappointed to find out that it was a europe/ jp only release. I looked for the game for about 11 years and finally got the jp version rockman megaworld for $99 on ebay in 2005 and then found the pal version of wily wars for $50 on ebay in 2006. not everyone likes megaman the wily wars but because I waited so long to play it, I enjoyed it more then most people did.

sega saturn, I wanted one of these pretty badly during the mid 90s but couldn't get one because of the price and ended up with a playstation in late 96. a few years later in early 1999 when the saturn was discontinued I put one on layaway at wal mart for $50 and put a model 2 controller and sonic r, sonic jam on layaway with the system and paid it off in a few months. then went to toys r us when they were clearing out their saturn stock and picked up virtua fighter kids for $10, virtual on for $20, virtua fighter 2 for $10.

dreamcast, same as above with the saturn I wanted one but could not afford one. I was content with my saturn so I ended up waiting until the beginning of 2001 to get a dreamcast for $50 when best buy had just lowered the price of the system, accessories and games. I picked up the system for $50, 2 vmu's for $5 each, extra controller for $10 and bought virtual on ot for $15, sonic adventure for $20. then went to toys r us and got marvel vs capcom for $10. my system was the black box version that came with the sega smash pack.

Super NES: I think I finally owned one after 2003 sometime.

Turbo DUO/ DUO/R: I sold my TG16 back in 1992, but always wanted a DUO, I finally got one sometime after the "HD" generation started.

Saturn Twin Sticks: I have always loved, LOVED, Virtual On, and only bought one set sometime late last decade.

Colecovision, waited 28 years.

The N64 console. In Europe we got it much later than anyone else, not only the release date was later, we got an extra 3 months delay on top of that. We finally got it in March 1997 if i remember correctly.

After that it was Zelda. At least one new picture and some new info every single month in magazines for 2-3 years before its release.

Also, a Metroid sequel after Super Metroid. It skipped the N64 completely and after 8 years we finally got a game, fortunately a very good one that spawned a trilogy.

PS3 here. Just got one a few months ago. Got a new TV, had no BR player. When my PS2 (which was also my PSX as my PSX's keep dying) finally decided to die fully on me, I tracked down one of the PS3's with Hardware PS2 BC and picked it up.

Mine would be the Virtual Boy, I had always wanted to play one but didn't want to spend much money because the system and titles aren't really worth dropping a lot of cash on. I just recently found one on Cragislist near me for a steal of a price and picked it up.

Second to that would be a PC Engine Duo. I'd never really followed Turbo stuff until several years ago, but once I got a basic TG16 with some hueys I was hooked. Eventually got an amazing deal on a Duo-RX and CoreGrafx with a bunch of games and have really enjoyed the library.

The oldest by design was my Colecovision. I saw it for sale on AA for 30 bucks in box and I couldn't refuse.

The oldest by desire has to be my Neo Geo CD unit - I've always wanted a Neo Geo machine, and I remember when the CD system came out in the mid 90's wanting one badly, as the games would actually be at an affordable price. So far, I haven't been disappointed. Getting it CIB helps, too. :)

3DO!!!

I was 9 when it came out in '93. I would browse through the games in their gigantic boxes at Wal-Mart wishing I could get them. And I'd just stand and stare at the TOP shelf - where they kept the 3DO consoles. All other consoles were at arms reach. I just wanted so badly to pull one of them down from that shelf and take it home. I also remember mowing the lawn one day trying to figure out exactly how many times I'd have to mow it (my dad paid me $5-15 every time I mowed the lawn) in order to save up the $700 to buy it. I quickly realized that I'd never be able to get one. :(

Well, I finally purchased one a few years back... and that's all I have to say about that...

32x console and Chaotix, probably. I wanted a 32x just for Chaotix ever since I saw it in a Sega magazine before it came out. Found the cartridge in a shop about 5 years ago for £15, then waited until I found a decently priced console a few months later.

More recently, Xbox 360 - I finally bought one as Sonic Generations came out. Those damnable Sonic games!

Mine was a Neo Geo console, I had wanted one since I first played Fatal Fury when it was new. I was okay with SNES and Genesis ports, until Samurai Showdown came out. Part 1 didn't have a decent home conversion, and part 2 was never released stateside on another console for a long ass time.

I new I would never afford the pricey console, and even if I did buy one I'd never be able to afford the games. As the years went by I bought almost every Neo port for the SNES, Genesis, and later the PSX and Saturn, and when I got the internet I would chat with friends who would talk about the latest releases, and saving for months to get them.

Sometime around 2001 I was talking to one of these friends in irc chat, about how I couldn't afford the Neo. He then linked me to several ebay auctions showing me that used systems could be had for less than $200, and common games such as my beloved Samurai Shodown 1 and 2 were pretty cheap. I cashed in my vacation time at work, bought a system for like $180, and got a dude in Japan to send me Samurai Shodown 1 and 2, Fatal fury 2 and Special for fairly cheap. Great times!

Mine would be my Genesis. I had a couple friends who had one growing up, but I always wanted one of my own. Then shortly before my freshman year of college, a used game shop opened up close by, so I went there with a sack full of games I never played and came home with my first genesis. I went on to get a Sega CD a year later for free at the same shop, then a 32X the following year also for free, also at the same shop.

Master System. Wanted one ever since I heard of it (When I was about 6 or 7). I grew up wanting to collect retro games and saw a master system at a flea market while i was visiting my Aunt in Alabama, of couse it was $80, yep expensive.

Later on, earlier this year I got one with my birthday money for $45 at a local flea market. It came with 3 card games and 4 cartridge games.

I just want to add that the number one gaming-related thing I waited the longest to finally buy was my Dreamcast and everything related to it. I'm just too lazy right now to quote-up my thoughts on the subject (pertaining to said other thread).

(Hopefully in the right thread this time, do all threads have to have broken sentences as titles?)

I forgot to mention that I got an X'Eye, 3DO and Jaguar all in more recent years. I wish I bought a 3DO back when I saw a Goldstar model at Best Buy for $50 in 1997. Between it and the Saturn I could have been more than happy picking up new to me titles for a lot longer. The X'Eye is the next best thing to my Genesis 1 Sega CD 1 combo. I had two at one point because the one I have has a dead second controller port. The Jaguar I'm still working on, the ten or so games I have for it are certainly good but I bought them at a time I didn't like playing much of anything.

All in all, I'm very happy with all of these systems and intend to keep them for as long as they live, which should be significantly longer than modern systems.

neo geo cd - after seeing the games and systems pictured in gaming magazines during the 90's I wanted a neo geo very badly but it was too expensive at the time. I played a few of the games in a few arcades during the late 90s to early 2000s but that wasnt enough. fast forward to 2005 and I finally found a neo geo cd with 12 games, 1 joystick and 1 controller for $150, I didn't mind the loading times at all. just having a neo geo in any form was enough.

neo geo pocket color - I wanted one of these pretty badly in 1999-2000 but for some reason never got one and they dissappeared off of store shelves very fast. eventually around 2005 a bunch of new old stock ng pockets with several games included were available almost everywhere online. I grabbed one off of ebay with 12 games for $80.

Dreamcast. I bought my first one exactly 8 years after it came out.

The oldest game...I think Dragon Warrior. It first came out in, what, 1986? I played it as a kid in 1993 but didn't buy my own copy until last year, so...18 years.

I've never waited that long to purchase a VG related item that I really wanted. Even when I really wanted a Genesis when I was 14, I worked a few long weekends at a convent and had it within a month.

I'd say that most of what I'd like are recent interests, and don't own yet, but I can't really think of a particular VG item that I've coveted for years without having bought it yet. I think the closest to that idea would have to be my indecisiveness towards picking up a Saturn for a handful of expensive games, which I've been debating for about a year.

Actually, I have wanted a copy of Suikoden 2 for quite a while.
