$50 a month?!?! Surely you jest! You mean $60 for the year right, plus the $8 per month for Netflix?

As much of a bummer that paying for XBL can be, if you call 1-800-4MY-XBOX for any reason, they will offer you a year of Live for ~$40. I think I paid $30 for my year subscription, which is totally fair, but no one should be paying $50 or more a year for Live when a quick phone call will knock 30% off retail.

When (if) this deal goes into effect, it would be suitable for people who lack hundreds of dollars upfront to buy the system but being a smart shopper would go a lot farther then the illusion this package presents. Not only can you get the yearly subscription for $60.00 but you can also find the 4Gb Slim being offered on sale and/or with a free wireless controller. The same goes for Kinect (for those who actually want it). Shop around and you can find much better deals.

I think it has more to do with Microsoft trying to cut out any middle men while at the same time expanding their base than poor Kinect sales. Lamentably, Kinect-oriented hardware is going to be the future for Microsoft, no matter how much we kick and scream about it.

And of course this deal isn't for the savvy shopper, seeing as from Newegg you can get a 250gb 360 Bundle w/ Kinect for 349.00 w/ free shipping & no tax, and 2 years of Live can be had for ~$80 if you call Microsoft up and tell them you love XBL but feel it's too expensive. For those that want it now without sinking a whole paycheck into it, this $99 up front package isn't a bad deal.
