best movie licensed games?

I'm rather surprised Power Rangers the Movie for the Genesis isn't getting mentioned more. It's a great example of a Genesis game being better than it's SNES counterpart in gameplay, content, and even music.

"The Movie", wholeheartedly agree - the Sega version dumps all over the SNES version in all departments. But Genesis Mighty Morphin' vs SNES Tournament Edition? I'm not so sure...

I do admit the original Genesis game is bad. I never tried the SNES fighting game though. I'd say the best Power Rangers games would be the first one on the SNES and the Movie on the Genesis.

I am still baffled by the lack of PC titles pertaining to the Star Trek franchise.

Yeah, that's about right. You should check out the SNES fighter, though - it's pretty good.

I've seen the SNES fighter, but I feel the Genesis one does capture the spirit of the show a bit better. If the SNES one had non-Zord battles it would beat it though. Though I was bummed that the Genesis fighting game used the same background for all non-Zord battles.

Agreed; that did suck.

Goldeneye (N64) of course... Heck, the game was much more popular than the movie itself. Most gamers who loved the game weren't even Bond movie fans (i find those movies pretty boring). Also, for a movie licensed game, it was groundbreaking and unique, like a true first party original AAA game. I think it would have been even more successful if it didn't have the Bond name on it, as many people i knew back then didn't want to play it because it was a James Bond game and they hated the movies.

Agreed. Most licensed games (especially in the 32-bit era) were pretty bad. It was rare to have a good one. Goldeneye not only blew by good, but it was the best console fps of its generation. Can't think of another licensed game that defined or influenced a genre like Goldeneye did.

I came into this thread to see if someone had already mentioned the game I'm thinking of. And if not, I came to promote the hell out of it. I'm saddened that no one's mentioned TRUE LIES for the SNES. It's a nifty, challenging little overhead action shooter sucker. There are all sorts of cool levels to blast the baddies in, from docks to malls to parks to subways... it's all pretty atmospheric stuff, stays true to the movie and really can be a whole lotta fun. It's not a mindless shooter either, as you'll have to duck, roll and hide with Arnie. You can't go all-out John Woo (well you can, but it's a quick death ticket). The hiding, strategic blasting, throwing grenades... it really is a GOOD game. Check it out. If it's too hard for you, there are simple password cheats that allows you to jump to a certain level, or fill up your arsenal. This means all game players, of varying skill degrees, can enjoy TRUE LIES. Even the last battle is pulled right out of the movie's finale. Good stuff.

Another unique feature is you can kill the innocent civilians. Kill like 3 and you're forced to restart the level. See, you really can't go in guns a'blazing. It's more challenging than you think. There's even blood, but it's very cartoony blood.

Gotta appreciate the wide range of weapon choices as well.

Nothing like pumping a bad guy's stomach full of shotgun lead!

Or setting the opposition on fire with the trusty ol' flame thrower.

Surprisingly solid game!

Hell yeah! True Lies is one of my favourite Genesis games. People always talk about Mercs and other top down run 'n guns, but this one never gets a mention. It is miles ahead of any other game in its genre, IMO.
Not sure if the SNES version is better, since I haven't played that one.

Highly agree with you guys. True Lies is some of the best and most underrated run 'n gun games ever made.

It's massively hard, though.
