Check out the betas on drx's site. The one in the vid does look to be too early though, with vastly different music. Interesting.
thanks for sharing, I love watching beta footage of games to see what was different in the early stages of developement. was the cut out motorcycle stage ever made in playable form? I can't remember if the motorcycle stage was from 2 or 3 but I remember seeing it in a old issue of egm.
It was from Streets of Rage 3.
Some things I noticed.
1. Zan has a different walking animation, almost gorilla like. (which is amusing because Max had a similar walking animation in the BKII Beta)
2. Victy the Kangaroo was called KAN, short for Kangaroo. (also fuck sor3 and their stupid Roo name)
3. Victy walks right onto the bulldozer, so proper hit detection wasn't programmed yet.
4. Music from SOR2 plays, obviously the techno crap we got wasn't pooped out yet.
5. The "death" of the bulldozer driver is quicker then the final one.
Funny clip, seeing Zan with his beta walk was very interesting, shame about the little kid voice over though.
Streets of Rage 3 NEVER HAPPENED!
bring back sor series please sega!
- Screw the Kangaroo period, it's a slap in the face to anyone who paid to buy this game.
- Zan's sprite looks better but his animations needed some work
- Blaze still has her crotch shot
- Fat guy's can still get slammed
Why didn't anyone say wtf is this 24-Meg game inferior to it's 16-Meg prequel.
I love beta footage too. I note Zan has Max's face on his health bar.
Shouldn't this be in the Genesis section?
They shoulda kept that Zan, his special attacks look so much better! The electric shock looks way cooler and so does the arm drill.
Whoever was playing Sammy/Skate really sucks though.
I am still kinda speechless that they really did like 200 betas over a period of like half a year or whatever when they were working onruininglocalizing the game. Kinda explains why the SOR3 staff roll consists of 25% people from SOJ (creating the game) and 75% people from SOA (localization and beta testing said localization).
This company was waaay too bloated bitd.
I still say I once read an interview on Sega-16 where this ex Sega employee commented on how stupid the whole localization process was.
Wish I knew which Interview that was..
