The Oldest ORIGINAL Game In Your Collection

Despite passing ownership a few times and moving across the country twice, this game (purchased brand-new when I was in first grade or so) made it back into my possession when I was helping my parents move a couple years ago.

Beyond this game (and two of its NES siblings that I recovered in the same fashion), the next-oldest game I have is for the GBA (Metroid Fusion, I'm guessing). That means that all the games I purchased between the ages of about 7 and 23 have been either lost or sold.

Uh... hmm. I honestly have no idea. It'd be whichever DOS game I've had for the longest, something purchased between when we got our first PC in Jan. '92 and Dec. '93, when I got the Game Boy, my first console... but I don't know what (retail) games I got during that period, no idea. I mean, I know which DOS games I own, overall, and have some idea of when I got some of them, but don't really know what I got that early...

I do know my first console games, though. When I got that GB at Christmas '93, I got it with Super Mario Land and Kirby's Dream Land. I eventually gave away that copy of Kirby, but do still have Super Mario Land, so that'd be the console game I've owned the longest. (I also got The Lost Vikings for the PC that Christmas, but I certainly had other games before that.)

I want to believe my oldest game in my collection has to be Sword of Vermilion for the Sega Genesis. It was my friend's back in the Genesis' heyday, then I bought it from him around 1999.

I thought of this topic when I was reminiscing about all the game boxes I've thrown away, and how it was only recently that I started saving the damn things.

Either Sonic 2 or Madden '93, which I got in the early 90's with my original Genesis. I only owned maybe 3 or 4 other games for my Genny during that time, and used Sega Channel to play all the other greats. I've had quite a few other copies of Sonic 2 I've gotten in lots and such over the years, so I'm not 100% sure that cart is the same one from my youth, but I hope so. I have the same concern over my Model 2 Genesis. I've had so many other Model 2's that I'm slightly hesitant it's my original one, and that really pisses me off.

LOL, How the hell can you even remember such a thing? That's like asking when was the last time you had a fruit roll up.

If I can even remember, it could have been my pirated copy of mario bros 3 or megaman 2. Yep I had a pirated nes clone back when I was a wee child. :D

When I came to America tho, my first games I'd achieve which is no longer with me were Wario Land 3 and Megaman Xtreme 2 for the gameboy color, bought both on the same day at some wal mart. Man did I love that Wario game.

It's not the first game you bought, though. It's the oldest game currently in your collection that has been with you since you originally acquired it.

My pack in copy of Altered Beast...came with my original Genesis, my older brother and I collectively received them for Christmas 1989. From what my dad told me he originally planned to get a NES for us but the salesman talked him into a Genesis.

That's a bummer. I can count the number of games which have left my possession for the entire span of my life on two hands. Much of my Sega Master System collection would classify as oldest games I bought when they were new, but I have plenty of colecovision, intellivision, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, and Atari 8-bit games that I've purchased since.

The two games I've had in my possession the absolute longest would be Kirby's Dream Land and Sports Illustrated: Baseball and Football, both on Game Boy. I can't even believe I found that sports game several years after I thought most of the Game Boy stuff was sold. But I guess both of those games somehow survived. I have Sports Illustrated in my Game Gear Deluxe carry case (yeah, how fitting to put Game Boy crap in one of them), but I can't quite remember where Kirby is.

Hmm, nothing terribly exciting here. My oldest stuff is my Mega Drive collection, so the oldest game in that collection is probably my oldest overall. In that case, the honor then goes to my Japanese REV00 copy of The Super Shinobi (aka The Revenge of Shinobi) from 1989.

Recieved for my birthday on 26/2/1991 together with a Lynx. An awesome game, still have it. Sadly my Lynx is a bit broken

The game I've had in my possession the longest is the Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt / World Class Track Meet cartridge that came with my NES in '89! 23 years ago, damn! Now I do own some other NES games that are older than that, but the triple feature is the one that has been in my collection the longest.

That happens to be the best in the SMB series, so good that you hung onto it after all these years.
