Damn it..I need the complete MSX romset NOW!
Floppy games are really hard to find in rom form :(. Even Aleste 2, a popular game, is a bit.
This one has a Master System port if anyone wants it:

After some powerups the game gets a lot better, the only really annoying thing is that terrible first attack.
Master System version:
Kamahl: F YEAH THEXDER 2
The Thexder games (the Game Arts originals, at least; can't comment on Sierra's Thexder 95, but Thexder NEO was pretty good) are the best.
Someone suggested this to me on an MSX forum earlier today and I got all excited until I saw it was a floppy disk game. I desperately need to find myself a floppy drive and connecting cartridge for my MSX, because there is a ton of great stuff out there for it. And, more importantly, you can't write to the SCC MegaFlashRom cart without a floppy disk drive to write from.
Enemy Zero is an often overlooked classic for the Sega Saturn.
I love Enemy Zero. It's a very unique game.
Iron Blood (DOS CD).
A pretty cool "Assault Suits" clone. Plays very much like Assault Suits Valken/Cybernator though I remember it being a lot more challenging. Cool mecha and old-school anime designs as well as some neat weapons and levels.
Music isn't bad either, and you got to love the gravelly voice effects.
I've been playing a lot of 16-bit Castlevania recently in an effort to try to make a decision on which was the best once and for all, and lately I can't shake the thought that I like ESWAT: City Under Siege better than all on them (maybe I'm just fed up with Castlevania at the moment though :))) so I'm putting ESWAT here.
E:CUS is just so well designed, and its constantly throwing new things at you, its starts off as a very polished Rolling Thunder-esque game with great music and nice layouts, then it chucks you into a robot suit which has loads of different weapons that can be cycled through and have strengths in different areas, then it starts hitting you with these levels with really intricate layouts that require you to navigate carefully with your jetpack (which only allows you to fly for a few seconds), it even hits you with a supercharged jetpack which can fly indefinitely for a while (this section was very cool the first time I reached it).
All in all its a very fun, carefully designed, and rewarding game

BTW
Never attempt to just fly around with the jetpack, the Jetpack hovers indefinitely, you can jump into the air, hold the jetpack button and you will stay in position for good, shooting down on enemies if you so want, it doesn't run down power unless you're moving. Its better to move into position, hover, and then take stock of your surroundings, if you need to navigate something then hover in place, then push the direction you want to move in and weave to the position you want to go.

I really like ESWAT as well, the only fatal flaw is that the game doesn't scroll until you're pretty close to the edge of the screen. It doesn't give you a whole lot of time to react and you get hit a lot when you really shouldn't.
Once you get used to it though it really is a fantastic and overlooked side-scroller.
Are you counting Rondo as 8-bit? It shits on the SNES and Genesis games. ;)Quote:

Die Hard for NES. I just picked this game up from Goodwill for $2 (I know a steal, it goes for about $40 on eBay) and I must say once you figure out what you have to do after a few playthroughs, this game because really fun. It is HARD as hell, and they don't give you nearly enough time to figure out what to do and explore the levels, but overall it's a wonderful top-down shooter. Now if only they had incorporated in the game really what to do and where to go a little bit better, and this game would have been a NES classic. But ignore the hate this game gets and give it a shot if you're a fan of the movie, as well as games like Contra or Commando.

Baloo: Die Hard NES rocks. I love it.
NeoZeedeater asked awhile ago if any of us had tried out any of the games suggested in this thread.
Tiny Tank is one that I'd never heard of. Now that I've played it I can see why it goes so unknown. Quirky is an understatement.
Quite a shame because Tiny Tank is an unusually smart and well crafted game.
I love tank games and the video The Jackal posted impressed me with the speed at which Tiny Tank is played. Along with his recommendation I went out and purchased a copy some weeks ago. I've been wanting to complete the game before commenting, but since this thread is bumped, here goes...
Ya'know without doing a thorough in-depth review I can't really do this game justice. Typing on my phone is going to prevent any thorough exposition here.
The character of Tiny Tank and the cut scenes were a complete turn-off when I started playing. The cute, wise cracking attitude character was played out long before this game came out. And then the music comes in on the first level. Omg, are they kidding? Yeah, it turns out they are!
Let me just say I'm rarely taken in by a game anymore, Tiny Tank is great. Very challenging, imo, but I make progress each time I try again. The story and game world show a great deal of intelligence and game design experience.
I have issues with the auto-aiming main guns since they sometimes target the wrong enemy when multiple enemies are in the immediate vacinity. I've gotten stuck twice where the solution wasn't clearly defined or intuitive, but maybe I'm just feeble from modern games which constantly hold your hand.
I'm quite certain the developers have paid homage to Namco's Assault, the lift pad which takes you from level to level is very reminiscent of Assault's, as is the manner in which Tiny Tank rolls over itself.
I'm wondering if any of this team from Appaloosa Interactive went on to work with Smart Bomb Interactive. Many elelments of Tiny Tank remind me of Snoopy vs. The Red Baron on PS2.
