Um... Why haven't I heard about this before... And how are they banning Import Converters?

I hate eBay, the whole website is a fucking monopoly scam with Paypal that gets worse and worse for sellers, and is starting to get just as bad with buyers. Biggest piece of shit website anymore.
I usually just google "shop" this stuff before I go directly to eBay. What I don't get is why they need to go so far back to retro gaming systems that aren't even being enforced by the companies anymore. Funnily enough, I didn't see anything about the GameGenie. But pin converters, Pro Action Replay Carts for the Saturn (one of which I did buy on eBay) and Sega Satellite? WTF? And yet, they went out of their way to ban all unlicensed import converters but allowed game enhancers like the GameShark (which, on the Saturn, does allow you to play imports) and the "Action Play" (whatever the fuck that is. And like I said, no sign of the Game Genie).
Yup. At this rate, I can see in the totalitarian future an eBay that won't even allow stupid things like third party controllers or even independently developed games.
I've already seen those 60-72 pin adaptors get pulled. And their description of modified consoles was rather vague. I agree QuickSciFi, it really does seem pointless to enforce this on old systems.
what does it matter if someone buys a Saturn import cart? they want everyone who doesn't already have radiant silvergun to buy it on XBLA? Watch, next they'll ban import games.
If they ban import games that will pretty much kill the Saturn and PC-Engine ebay market.
We could come up with code names though. For example we start calling 72-60/60-72 pin adapters NES/Famicom Sonic and Knuckles carts that use Lock-On technology.
I've dealt with this before. I like telling people for example a North American game will not work on a Pal system without a converter or mod chip. However if I use those words they will not even let me put up my listing. I have to put it in another round about way to my customers, something along the lines of "this game will not work on a pal system under normal circumstances" Its really pathetic that Ebay panders to large game companies. All of us should complain if nothing else.

Honestly, what's to stop someone from just buying a Japanese system on ebay? Their policy doesn't prevent that at all. The only way for them to really abide by their rules and the laws the claim exist that make importing illegal would be to just ban import games entirely. So if they are allowing import games to be sold and allowing import systems to be sold there's really no reason to ban things like the Action Replay 5-in-1. I can understand not selling mod chips that allow backups, but attempting to block import gaming and claiming it's illegal is just pure bullshit.
They took down and deleted my Dragon Force jpn sale earlier this year because I mentioned the need of a PAR in the description. I had to completely repost the sale just to remove one comment in the description.
Who the hell thought this up and why? This seems like it will cost them a lot of business more than anything. Is Amazon like this too?
They canceled my NES auction because I clipped the pin on the 10NES chip. Going by that reasoning, they would not be able to allow sales of NES top loaders because they never had the 10NES chip installed from the factory.
Ebay is just going to hurt themselves with this. People will just start going to other places. ioffer is a good alternative. It just needs more people interested.
As long as I can still buy mega drive japan games, I'm safe.
A while ago now, I myself had a sale pulled from ebay, I got the generic "you're a pirate email". It was a modded mega drive, since then I haven't sold a thing on there. It seems some sellers do get away with it though (power sellers). There was a guy on ebay in australia (who posted here, but only to sell his wares) who had in his title "region free mega cd". In the description spoke of switches and what not, got to keep the ad. Also they sell a lot of master systems with switches with no worries (allthough these are region free I suppose).
I hope it doesn't get to the point of you can't purchase games from abroad.
That policy has been in effect for a loooooong time, it's nothing new. The fact that most of the stuff it refers to is from the PS1/Saturn era kind of shows it's lineage.
eBay did in fact outright ban non-US Dreamcast game sales for quite some time, it was a while after the system's demise before they allowed them.
There's a reason why gamegavel exists :P
If you don't use terms like "modded", "mod chip", "backups", etc. you're not setting off any alarms. It's all about your word choice, not the actual content of your auction.Quote:

When I called to complain I was instructed to create the listing info for ebay. I pointed out that I do not work for ebay, and asked what discount or payment I would recieve for doing work on behalf of ebay. The operator did not catch my drift, of course.
Also very often the prefilled info is incorrect.
EBay certainly has some confused people working for it.
Bootleg DS games are still listed and sold daily, yet they threated to suspend me for listing a Sega Mark III game.
I had trouble with that when they first started. I had some Japanese Mega Drive games and they took them down because I didn't use their info that was for the American versions. I was in the right and they backed down but I had to make a whole new listing because they deleted my old ones. I really wish they would not waste time on this sort of thing.
