Recommend some SNES action titles?

After years of keeping away from the SNES to focus on my NES ans Genesis collections I've finally decided to build up my anemic collection of titles for Nintendo's ugly-gray-console-that-could.

I'm not one for RPGs so I've been trying to find some great action titles for the console and you guys, as fellow Genesis fans, generally tend to have similar tastes as me in games (the recent NES recommendation thread helped confirm that) so I was wondering what your picks are. I'm looking for platformers, shmups, run 'n guns, and other stuff like that.

Here's what I already own:

So what else would you guys recommend? Some hidden gems with lower price tags would especially be appreciated.

P.S. don't make this another thread of comparing SNES and Genesis games or arguing endlessly about the technical merits of certain titles. Just post some cool games.

Good picks, I can only add Super Double Dragon, it is the best SNES beat-em up gameplay wise despite the slowdown.

Is the slowdown in this game as big a deal as some people have made it out to be? I think it looks pretty awesome and I do enjoy the other Gargoyle's Quest games.

Hagane - It's no Shinobi III but it's very good and the closest you'll get to that on SNES. It might not be cheap anymore, though.

I did the same thing as you, I enjoyed my time collecting for the genesis a lot that I have forgotten about my snes and now my shelf is running out of space for cib snes games I've been getting lately, lol.

EDIT: Lol, Kamahi taste in snes games really matches mine. Not everyone knows that the Japanese version of Biometal is much better for the music reason.

If you love a bit of Strider, then you might want to have a crack at Run Saber. It's a very solid...well, I'll be kind and say "homage" :)

slowdown? the game is slow paced allright but there is no slowdown ,this is crazy ... all the Gargoyle quest games are "slow" and this is no exception... the game is great, give it a go on an emulator and judge by yourself :)

I would love to get my hands on Hagane someday but the asking price for that game has gotten absolutely absurd.

I'm kicking myself for not picking up Sparkster in a pawn shop the other day for twenty bucks when I saw what that was going for online.

Definitely going to pick up Super SWIV/Firepower 2000 (one of my favorites to play with friends back in the day), Contra III, Macross (eventually, my favorite shmup on the system after Axelay), Super Alleste/Space Megaforce (another eventually), Turtles, and a few others mentioned. I'm not going to go too crazy with the SNES mainly because it's getting harder to find the games I want cheap. I shelled out quite a bit for Metal Warriors but it's one of my favorite games.

What I mean is the graphics are pretty intense and I've heard it strains the hardware at times.

It's pretty rare, the game is just slow paced.

Run Saber, Hagane, and Super Adventure Island 1 and 2 are all tons of fun :)
