The CD-i has good games that are also available on PC. It was disappointing for exclusives. I liked The Apprentice, though.
I think almost all game systems have at least a few enjoyable games so this is a good topic for including obscure stuff. I don't remember really liking much on the Leisure Vision/Arcadia 2001 or Studio II, though. I'll have to play that stuff again to if there's a favourite.
PS3: Tekken 6
I've never really understood the appeal of Choplifter on SMS, frankly I personally find it to be one of the worst shoot-em-ups I've ever played.
Every now and then I re-try it to see if I can get into it, but years on I still think its pure trash, it just has absolutely no redeeming qualities outside of perhaps the graphics, which are respectable.
Its like someone took Defender, improved the graphics, and then made it control like shit.
why control like shit?
elaborate, please.
Moving and shooting aren't independent, if you're flying forwards you can't shoot what's in front of you, if you try to retreat from an enemy you fire into the sky, the character moves too quicky, and stopping and changing direction is sluggish and takes ages (by which point you're dead).
In the end it becomes an unpolished hodge podge of memorisation, flying low to avoid enemies, and moving people from one area to another, nothing feels like it works properly.
Thinking about it, its more like Dropzone I guess, but crap.
I was impressed by how this thread was getting straight replies without any discussion or criticism.
...well for the first three pages at least.
I read yours and Neozeedeater's. I almost called you out for your asshole pick of Ninja 5-O on the GBA.
"This game was awesome, but I guess you'll just have to take my word for it, huh? LOL!!!"
They ported this to the iOS? Fuck you, Capcom.
Alright, here goes.
SMS - Phantasy Star
Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Game Gear - Tails' Adventure
Sega CD - Ecco the Dolphin
Saturn - Panzer Dragoon Saga
Dreamcast - Shenmue
NES - Kirby's Adventure
Game Boy - Final Fantasy Legend 2

GBA - WarioWare: Twisted!
Gamecube - F-Zero GX
PSX - Vagrant Story
PS2 - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Xbox - Panzer Dragoon Orta
Only one Kirby game on there, huh? Weird...
You really need to get a DS and play Canvas Curse and Mass Attack.
Oops! Forgot to list Kirby's Return to Dream Land for the Wii. Although Dream Land 1 & 2 are both very strong contenders for my #1 Game Boy title. And Kirby's Super Star is a real close #2 on the SNES.
Off-topic, but I can't wait for the new Kirby collection. That looks awesome.
NES - Shatterhand
SNES - Cybernator
SMS - Aladdin
MD - Ristar
Ps1 - Einhänder
This thread, yeah, I did. All good responses. It's telling to see the games that are mentioned multiple times.
And generally it gives some perspective on the tastes we all share. Its got me remembering about games I'd like to play more of sooner than later. Joust, Bangai-O, Panzer Dragoon series, Q-bert...
To each his own.
IMO the game is awesome The chopper controls like a charm, everything feels like it should be in a helicopter-based shmup.
Are you sure you're not mistaking this for the NES version?
That one is awful indeed, everything negative you mentioned applies to that version.
I'm hurt MrM.
Because discussion and criticism are undesirable?
...and Gio made the first comment in post #8, followed by QuickScifi in post #11--how few posts do you get each page?
Actually these are what make you a good member, it's the quiet churchmice who only ever open their mouths for a quick "Hallelujah Sega" who are a waste of time.
Discussion is good. I can totally understand how someone could find Choplifter's controls unappealing if they just want to play a standard shooter. That doesn't make the controls bad, though. It's supposed to realistic (by 2d shooter standards) and momentum based. I wouldn't change it.
Like j_factor, I also found Ninja Five-O for a cheap price. I don't love the game quite as much as every else seems to, though. It does a good job at mixing the styles of games like Bionic Commando and Shinobi but I get the feeling it wouldn't be as praised if it were say a Genesis game. On the GBA it has little competition so it stands out more. But who knows? Maybe it will click with me more next time I play it.
And yeah, I read everyone's lists. I don't understand how someone would interested in only making their own and not reading others'.

No, not at all. It was just nice being able to scan list after list without the interuption of opinions or analysis.
Now that a number of lists have been established and posted according to the thread creator's intentions, discussion and commentary are certainly welcomed. Often these list threads are derailed or skewed with interjection early on and it becomes a cluttered affair.
Only listing systems I have or have played a good amount of, of course. I haven't played enough of most 2nd gen platforms (emulation or real systems) to say much for most of those...
*Asterisks are for ones I'm quite unsure of. There are multiple other games on these platforms I like about as much as these.
