I use Kega Fusion (I like how it does sms, gg, sega cd, 32 x, md) at full screen on my PC then use my recording software either Cam Studio 3 or others to crop almost all of full screen - so is that 4:3 or 16:9 ?

I don't want to record a small 240 size window then expect it to look good in a youtube video because it will be all stretched out and stuff. I don't think that would be good quality.

What capture software do you use and do you make your Kega screen half size or record a crop full screen or edit later or, to get best video quality ? And you do save your video as an avi then upload to youtube ? I use dial up so that might take me 2 days "ha ha".

Also yes, if you want to debate someone online, a few back and forth should be limit, once they trolling you or start stalking you, block them.

I use a Canon 550d DSLR with a 35mm prime lens - way better than the kit lens that came with it (it is a bit too close-up for me though - I'm looking for something a little wider). Also, I've just got better at using the camera - I now use the right settings and everything! So yeah, the video quality's much better now.

Indeed. It's the best screen capture software - definitely worth paying for. It produces big files, but its a lot less memory-intensive.

Kega's fullscreen is 4:3, so I don't know why you'd need to crop it at all :/ - unless you mean you record your full desktop and then simply crop it to your Kega display?

When I was using Kega, I recorded it 640x480 windowed - the display was good enough to me, and the footage is fine for Youtube - it's 480p, after all. If you're recording Kega, there's no real reason to go any higher than that.

Well, I use a Dazzle DVC100 and the real hardware now :). But with Kega, my process was:

-Record the emu using Fraps. As I said, Fraps creates big files - 5 minutes of footage = about 4 GB. So yeah, you need the space...
-The good thing is though, nothing more needs to be done with those AVIs before putting them into Vegas. So, time to do all the editing magic and what-not!
-When the vid's completed, I render it as a whopping huge AVI - like, 50 GB or whatever. Of course, this is WAY too big to upload to Youtube - so I then use a piece of software called WinFF and encode the file as an MP4, which brings it down to a few hundred MB.

Yeah in my recording software/screen capture I have to select the borders (if you want to select a specific part of your pc screen as manual setting instead of it recording my bottom taskbar, clock, and stuff) and inside the borders it records what is on pc screen there (in that frame). So I make my Kega Fusion full screen on my computer and adjust recording software borders to basically full screen, so it captures it big instead of using the smaller a Kega window and then having that get bigger while editing in recording software, which might stretch the video quality. Do you know what I mean, it's best to capture something big then going 480 in editing software than recording at a Kega window at say 240 x 180 or w/e then recording/editing software automatically makes it 480, it might look pixel or "fat" looking. I didn't know Kega was 4:3. Thanks for answers. I will just use the Kega 640x480 windows instead of making it full screen and adjust record software borders/crop. I would like to buy model like one you have, but I have no idea what camera setting should be and stuff.

The good thing about Fraps is that you don't really have to worry about cropping/setting borders or anything. You simply load the program, open up Kega (or whatever it is you want to record) and it'll automatically be ready to capture from that window - so long as you see the frame counter in the corner, you're good to go! No need to crop - you simply set the resolution of your program to whatever you want - windowed, full screen, whatever. So instead of how you'd do it in CamStudio, you could actually record and play the game in Kega's proper full screen mode as opposed to simply maximizing your window.

The traditional Kimble review style - an overlooked Mega Drive gem. As brutal as it is, I bloody love this game - nothing like a game where you can't stop running!

And there's no emulation in this vid whatsoever!..well, not for the Mega Drive anyway. Obviously MAME had to be used for the Arcade stuff. Enjoy the vid - I reckon it's a doozy (well, aside from one moment where Vegas screwed up.)

Next up: Arcade to Spectrum. Not entirely sure when that'll be, but it's definitely next on the plate.

Never heard of the game before, but it looks great.

Making this video was quite hard, actually - because it took quite a long time, it became more of a chore - plus I really didn't have a lot of footage (these big compilation vids are probably going to go on the backburner for a spell - it's hard to devote the right amount of time to so many games). In the end though, I just had to get it out - I even had to cut 2 games out completely, unfortunately (Chase H.Q. and, regrettably, Rainbow Islands. Rainbow Islands is the king of all Spectrum ports, so it will probably get its own video eventually)...it felt a bit rushed near the end, to be honest. However, the response has been terrific, with plenty of people saying it's one of the best I've done to date. Go figure. Having said that, there really aren't many Speccy vids like this on Youtube - there's a fair few gameplay vids, but I think the only major reviewer who's done any sort of video like this for the Speccy is the almighty LGR - so it's definitely covering new ground.

In any case, there's still tons of stuff here - 8 Speccy arcade ports, both good and bad, along with a little mini-history of the Spectrum and why it deserves its place amongst the great machines (featuring all sorts of Speccy games that you should check out!). Enjoy the video!

Also, the channel hit 1,000 subscribers today! So I want to put a special thank you out to this place, seeing as Sega-16's one of the places that's helped me along and given me somewhere to stick my videos up (that and post in general, of course). What can I say, doing the arcade port videos and playing lots of arcade games to go with the ports I was covering gave me a bit of an arcade bug - so this was the logical conclusion. Doubtless they're all games you know, but I like getting this stuff down in video form. This video was pretty much all about Williams in the end, and the only shock is that after all the praise I heaped on them, they didn't take out the #1 spot. But yeah, I loved doing this 'un.

I asked my Youtube subs a while ago for some video suggestions as I was pretty much out of ideas, and was shockingly inundated with replies - I wasn't expecting so many...a few of them were rather good, but this suggestion seemed the most exciting. 'Cause fighting games on the Mega Drive are shite, aren't they? But there were so many different games I wanted to talk about, and I mention as many of them as I can here. I could have done this list in one of two ways - I could have taken the easy road and just filled it up with the arcade ports of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and SNK and the like...but why do that? Much better to disallow those titles and concentrate on the more original stuff no-one's heard of! In the end, quite a few of these games are certainly flawed, but...well, it's a good list. A subject I'm fond of.

Still, I reckon my batteries need charging up a bit. I might take this month off - chill down, relax, play some games just to play them rather than to capture them. I should take advantage of the summer break for a bit rather than continuing to work on videos like I do throughout my terms...

For my auditory attention while I post. Maybe you can throw in some slapstick skits like the angry video game nerd to grab my attention.

The only two good games on that list are Virtual Fighter and Yu Yu Hakusho (which is beyond amazing). Eternal Champions is not, and never was, good. The CD one acceptable, still wouldn't call it good. However came up with the idea of pressing 3 buttons on the gamepad for special moves needs to be shot.

How dare you attack Eternal Champions in this way. People like you disgust me. Plus, I heard that the all-new third game's going to be the launch title for the new Sega ZX Spectrum, so you best shut your mouth and support our troops.

(Seriously...bah, I still like it and always did, even though it was/is cheap as hell and the controls aren't exactly brilliant - god yeah, 3 buttons for special moves is terrible...it still has a place in my heart and always has since 1993. And you forgot about Best of the Best! AND Beast Wrestler! Those are good!...kinda! Even if pretty much nothing else on the list is...it would have been pretty much all good if it weren't for my evil limitations, of course. But Yu Yu Hakusho may well have still been #1 in the end...closely followed by SSF2 and Samurai Shodown.)

EDIT: Also, don't know if any of you noticed, but what little SNES footage there was in the video was done with a Super Everdrive on the real hardware...moving away from MD emulation was good, but moving away from SNES emulation is even better, especially considering that most SNES emulation is kinda rubbish outside bsnes - even with the limitations of PAL, it's a world apart. Still, the videos coming after the break (w/ perhaps a bit of gameplay during, who knows) will be moving away from the 16-bit world for the time being. I have a strong urge to play PS1/PS2 games...it won't be long before that's the next big thing in retro, I reckon - PS2, at least. There's just so many undiscovered gems out there...

EDIT II: And it has to be said that while this video was all about Mega Drive, one of the best games in the video is that little snippet of Oozomou Spirits for the SNES. VERY strongly recommended, a fantastic sumo game. Not played much like it before, to be honest.

I'll admit I kinda enjoyed the CD Eternal Champions, and loved the diverse and interesting cast of characters and their story. It's about as much praise as it'll get from me :p.
EDIT: You're right, I forgot best of the best which is pretty competent.
