I saw The Hateful Eight in 70mm yesterday. Awesome film, awesome print. Nuff said.
2015: Top 10 Favorite Films
10. Queen of Earth
A great, creepy character study about the dangers of poisonous relationships.
9. The Martian
Everything I wish Interstellar had been. Funny, but you still feel anything bad could happen at any moment.
8. Chappie
Surprised this stayed around. Just a fun update to Short Circuit
7. Mad Max Fury Road
The quality of everything put together here is still ridiculously good.
6. The Gift
Joel Edgerton has made one "holy shit...wait what?!" of a slow burn thriller that I'm still thinking about months later.
5. The Big Short
Maybe the scariest film of the year.
4. Room
Maybe not a perfect film, but definitely one that almost had the largest emotional impact on me. Go in blind.
3. Steve Jobs
This bombed because everything assumes they saw it already. You haven't. Not like this. Historical fiction about the last 30 years written by Aaron Sorkin.
2. Ex Machina
I'm surprised this stayed this high all year. A great close quarters sci-fi, and one that really just captures such great tone and holds on to it throughout.
1. Phoenix
This was released in Germany in 2014, but its US release was 2015 so it counts. One of the greatest emotional micdrop endings I've ever seen. This is on Netflix instant right now and should be watched.

Great recommendations there. :)
I've missed a couple of those. I need to check them out.

There's so much naked emotion floating around in this beautiful film that it's impossible not to be touched.

Last movie I watched was this one:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41iRoDZTwxL.jpg
Vampire movie produced by an Iranian-American, with a persian cast but a strong "Sex, crime & drugs" slant, American film noir - style, with some inspiration from Spaghetti Westerns. It was weird... but VERY intriguing.
Oh, and it isn't a movie, but DAMN: Ash vs Evil Dead is the BEST TV series of 2015 hands down! Got dammit, but this was a fun, thrill ride, and the series just kept getting better the more it went on, with a hell of a finale! Can't wait to get this on on BluRay, and I'm already desperately awaiting the next season. Bruce Campbell rocks!!!

Groovy!
Been into Carpenter movies lately after rewatching Christine.
- In The Mouth Of Madness met Sam Neill. Inspired by (or based on) the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Really liked it.
- They Live. I like the idea, but I found it to be very stretched/boring. I think it was better suited for a Twilight Zone episode.
- The Thing. Didn't like it years ago... but now, and after reading Mountains of Madness, I really appreciated the movie a lot more.
2015: Top 10 Least Favorite Films
10. The Suicide Theory
Australian thriller where every twist is so telegraphed and characters are so nonsensical I wondered that if there was a point to it being so blatantly on the nose. Nope. Just bad. It's on Netflix but I don't recommend it even out of riffing it.
9. Knock Knock
An Eli Roth film where we're supposed to laugh at Keanu Reeves yelling "FREE PIZZA!" and forget that he could have easily taken care of two girls invading his house and annoying him to death.
8. Self/Less
Ben Kingsley dies and becomes Ryan Reynolds then drives around the country as if he was driving to the corner store while randomly forgetting how to act human. I honestly already forgot a lot of this one.
7. Terminator Genisys
Everything was fine until that ending that shits on Terminator 2 so I walked out with three minutes left. Eat shit.
6. Fant4stic
Just hand this back to Marvel already and stop making these pointless films that will on live on in infamy on that Batman & Robin/Daredevil level.
5. Pixels
They send out a tape from 1982 to aliens so the aliens send 1982 references back to Earth. Like the Duck Hunt Dog. And freaking Max Headroom (complete with actually giving Matt Frewer some work, so there's that) Guess what? It was bad, and forgot and rewrote and sometimes flat out ignored its own rules.
4. Tomorrowland
Absolutely my most disappointing film experience of 2015. A war between Brad Bird trying to actually make a film and Disney trying to ruin said film out of spite. He could have done Star Wars man...
3. Unfinished Business
Then they walk into a room and see Nick Frost's dick in wall.
2. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
Fuck you. Just fuck you.
1. The Loft
A steaming pile of atrocious film making on ever level. Nothing makes sense throughout and you never take a moment to begin to care about everyone being a incomprehensible asshole. Please avoid this if you take nothing else out of what I'm typing here. No enjoyment will be taken.
Some dishonorable mentions:
Black Mass: Watch it for Depp, scroll Facebook on your phone for everything else
Child 44: 2 1/2 hours of random scenes that barely fit together and feels like three different films assembled into one giant mess.
Hitman Agent 47: It's crap, but that fun kind of crap. Punisher: War Zone level
Krampus: They reference Calvin & Hobbes for no reason
The Boy Next Door: Perfect for a drunken night of film mocking and whatnot. Hilarious, and watch Kristen Chenowith get her head beat in with a stick.

Saw Mallrats yesterday. It was good, but I think I still prefer Clerks.
We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
After watching this movie it made me consider how the parents of high school shooters (like Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold) dealt with the ramifications of their sons actions. And more importantly how the survivors are coping today This movie really makes you realize that when an incident like this happens, lives are not simply lost but shattered. Especially for the family, friends and survivors. :(
I saw Shichinin no Samurai last Tuesday at Filmhuset (Stockholm) in a completely crowded theater. 35mm print from 2002. Had some damage from earlier generations but was overall completely watchable. My third viewing of this masterpiece, yet my first time experiencing Kurosawa on the big screen. This film has aged like wine and remains as one of my top five favorite films ever made. Keeping in mind that when I first saw the film my only choice was the old, rotted Criterion CAV box set and one year later I got around to see their Blu-ray. And now seeing such a nice film print is a real treat, although they left the intermission out which was kind of a let down in my opinion.

I believe this was a direct-to-DVD movie. In any case, it inexplicably attracted a couple of big stars.
The supernatural element aside, this is a generic and clichéd serial killer chase.
The great Sir Anthony Hopkins should have given this one a miss.

Not sure if we have a dedicated "documentaries" thread,
so I'll just put this here.

Must see documentary introspective about the guy who made modern movies from the ground floor up.
The God Question (2014)

Very interesting movie. I liked it. :ok:

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - A
First MI movie for me and I really enjoyed it. Kinda regret skipping this when it was in theaters. Tom Cruise remains a great actor, I really liked Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson was sexy as hell. Some great action scenes that really had me on the edge of my seat. Couldn't stop watching. Now, I'm gonna have to go back and watch the first 4.

Neighbors - C
Pretty okay comedy. Good acting and chemistry and funny idea, but not enough laughs. Great premise, but the execution is a tad lacking. The upcoming sequel looks better.
So see The Witch. It's indescribable.
On another movie binge, so might as well talk about it. Will start with the bad, then list the good in another post later. (Seen these movies within past 4 days or so)
RECENT MOVIES I DID'T LIKE;
Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation - I'm a Tom Cruise fan. So I was looking forward to it even though my brother said it sucked. So I was sad to be let down by this one. Seemed like Cruise was bored in this movie. Like his face was just there in neutral mode for most of the movie. The previous MI seemed much better if I recall correctly? They had more energy and Cruise had more energy. That's what MI is for me and a nutshell. Cruise running really fast and making faces, lol. That water scene was cool. I'll still probably watch this one again because I'm a Cruise fan. :p
Spectre - lives up to the fall of this franchise just fine. Too bad too. Craig started with a great movie in Casino Royal with a memorable villain (finally) and always awesome Eva Green (this is the first time she made a massive impression on me. Love her in Sin City 2 so much too - what a bitch! :D). Then... I don't even remember what his second was about again. Just that I was bored and let down. The third I thought was better then the second. And this one... well, worse then the third, since I don't remember the 2nd. As for older Bond movies that I enjoyed as a kid on that VHS collection of the 90s, are; first 6 Roger Moore flicks; Goldfinger; Thunderball; and Goldeneye. ... Sad to see this once cool series take a dive.
Jurassic Word - Wow. Had to force myself to watch the rest of this movie around 1/4 in or something. Another lame Hollywood reboot and/or sequel. Basically a sequel but really a remake of the first. Didn't like any of the characters. And the final fight was bogus because it was too unbelievable. Sucks it made so much money. Now we're gonna get another crappy sequel/remake.
Avenger Age of Ultron - this movie set a new low for marvel movies for me. Yes, I'm no fan of the marvel movies, but at least Winter Soldier was ok enough for me to watch twice (so far the best Marvel movie to me). Ditto for Thor 2 (2nd best Marvel movie). At least those movies had really cool actors portraying really cool villains, among other things. Utron had a CGI villain with boring action scenes, lame one liners, cringe worthy romance, Hulk & Iron Man should not be those actors, some other head rolling stuff, and... well, I had to force myself to finish this movie from very early on too.
