Perpetual Movie Thread/What was the last movie you watched?

Hail, Caesar! I saw this in the theater. It's supposed to be a comedy but it wasn't funny to me. I guess you have to be a Hollywood insider to get it. I did enjoy the parts with the cowboy, including the part where they tried to make him into a dramatic actor. I don't think I really understood what it was supposed to be about. It didn't really seem to be about anything.

George Clooney's character, acting as a character in a movie, gives a pretty good speech near the end of the movie but it's ruined at the end. It's intentional but I would have enjoyed it more if it had been delivered correctly instead. :p

The last film I went out to see was Zootopia. It was a great film with a great message. TBH, this movie makes me not think too highly of Moana, like how Toy Story and The Lion King eclipsed Pocahontas.

I seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for the first time yesterday. What attracted me to this movie was Robert Redford and how awesome he was in The Winter Solider. So I looked up his name and this movie name stuck out plus was highly acclaimed as if a classic. Even though I don't always agree with what's highly acclaimed, feared that the movie was too old at 1969, and that the only Western theme movies I enjoyed were Clint Eastwood ones. But man, did this movie ever surprise me. What a great must see movie.

Yeah, me too. I seen a bunch of them this past month. My latest one was really awesome too. In the Mouth of Madness. Sam Neill made that movie so awesome;

I wonder why Sam Neill isn't way more popular with movies like this one, Event Horizon and Jurassic Park? He's a really awesome and memorable actor. But I've never seen him so awesome as in this movie.


Anyway, about the movie In the Mouth of Madness. Seems like every John Carpenter movie I enjoyed very much also has a very awesome title tune. Like this one, The Thing, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, and They Live. For this movie, the coffee shop scene at the beginning seemed familiar? Wasn't until that very cool ending that I that it hit me that I've seen this movie long ago before. No way I can forget that awesome ending performance by Same Neill. So awesome, that it's my fave part in the movie.

PS - I can't believe you don't like They Live and The Thing that much? I seen They Live 2 weeks ago for the first time. Had zero idea what I was in for. Didn't even see the cover of the movie. So yeah, man was way more blown away by it once things finally kicked in because of it (100% spoiler free makes everything way better). Such a kick butt movie. For The Thing, I enjoyed it much more after a second viewing (this is the movie that kicked off my Carpenter movie binge. My first viewing of it was a few months back). It might be his best movie after all. Another movie was Big Trouble in Little China. Escape from New York too was a massive surprise to me. The way Kurt Russell portrayed Snake is so cool. And that President, lol. I was let down by Escape from LA. Maybe another watch will make it better?

I saw the awful Star Wars: A Newerer Hope. Good god, it was like some producer's shut-in son got his Star Wars fanfiction screenplay greenlit. Everything was predictable, all of the comedy was cringe-inducing, and everything just felt dumbed down and smoothed over.

^ Yep. Stars Wars is dead from this moment on. So many things wrong with that movie.

I made it about 30 minutes into the new Star Wars before I had to turn it off.

You need to force yourself to watch the entire movie,you'll appreciate just how bad it really is.

just watched SW; THE FORCE AWAKENS the other day, my 2008 TOTL PIONEER BDP-05FD BDP, despite it's age, handled it flawlessly.

Meh. the movie, was, ALL RIGHT, i guess. certainly not quite the rousing motion picture event i feel a SW film should be.

on the whole, it honestly was positively chock full of what i consider to be sloppy storytelling and wonky "Acting"
Leia and Kylo Ren were sterling standouts in terms of astounding daftness, IMHO.

essentially, FORD's fantastic acting skills, -as well as all those slick, swanky IMPERIAL and ALLIANCE costume and vehicle redesigns- carried the film pretty much entirely...

Saw 10 Cloverfield lane.
I wasn't anticipating it being good since the original Cloverfield was (to me) pretty meh.

But when I heard they weren't related in any real way, and it was more of a claustrophobic and character driven thriller... I was on board for that so went to see it.

And it was an excellent movie up until the last 10 minutes or so... They did a real disservice to the movie with adding so much needless crap to the end. And it's not even hard to fix. Just cut n splice ~ 2minutes of the ending together and you not only make it a FAR superior ending, but also lose nothing of what they were trying to convey with it.

It's so out of place, it's unreal. I'm really hoping there's an alternative ending that gives the movie some form of justice.

See I don't mind the alien part itself. It's not like it wasn't mentioned in the movie or not... and if you'd seen Cloverfield and had any thought to the connection at all, it's not like it's unexpected either.

But going from the movie it was, to a sudden cut to Independence Day or some similar movie out of nowhere for literally the last few minutes of the movie was just... dumb. I know a few people have liked the change, but I just felt like it really took a crap on the real struggle and victory the movie had just finished showing you.

Had a combination of boredom and curiosity today so went to go see Batman v Superman.

Movie was a mess. The best praise I can give the movie is that it wasn't the worst movie I've seen.

It was, at its best, mediocre as a whole. There were bits of it that were good... Batfleck was pretty good. I had no doubt he'd pull off Wayne well, and he did. Batman was a different story, but considering what he was given, he did pretty well.

Cavill looks the part of Superman well. I just wish they would cast him AS Superman... what they give us here is Batman with superpowers. He's moody, pensive, always scowling or frowning, etc.

Eisenberg was.... I don't know what he was. I've heard some say they thought of him more of the mad scientist in this role... I don't see it. He's all over the place. He has zero motivations that make sense, almost none of his actions have any explanation, and his entire character is just irritating and contrived.
Jesse played whatever this character was well enough sure... but what that character was stunk... badly.

Gadot was intriguing as Wonder Woman. Her character in this movie was an afterthought. She was basically there a few times, then around for the fight scenes. It makes me hope the Wonder Woman movie will be good, because I think it has promise with her as the lead... but in this train wreck of a movie she seemed to be nothing more than a slapped on and poorly integrated afterthought.

The movie had no weight to it from a character standpoint. Everyone either had no motivation, or the motivations they had were incredibly contrived. The conflicts were so out of character.

There was portions of at least 2, maybe 3 good movies here... but they were slammed together into a twisted wreck that fails to allow any of them to truly shine.

Snyder and all the writers need to be given the boot... with any luck the actors can be put in movies that let them salvage the few bright spots that shone through this somber monstrosity.

Just finished watching The Hateful Eight. This is a great movie to watch under a slight buzz, so I highly recommend that. Long movie too. Tarantino really made great use of Kurt Russel and Samuel Jackson in the Hateful Eight.

These last two Tarantino movies that he did I really enjoyed. I couldn't really get into that Brad Pitt one, which I should get around to watching too, I guess.
