Perpetual Movie Thread/What was the last movie you watched?

On the Beach (1964). Post World War III atomic war, the remaining civilization in Australia waits for the end of the world. In a few months, they will get hit by the radiation. Mostly a drama, nothing like I was expecting from the description. Spoiler, no mutant zombies and everyone is actually quite civil about the whole thing, you have been warned. The only part I really enjoyed was the last Australian Gran Prix, it's worth watching that part. Well, I suppose just watching that part out of context would lose the underlying desperation of it all.

I don't care for fantasy movies much but I remember seeing this a long time ago. I was not impressed. But I did like the sequel. I never played the game but I know what it's supposed to be like from pop culture (there's a really good example from Dexter's Laboratory). Anyways, the sequel was a lot better and seemed more like what an adventure in the game would be like.

Someone wanted to watch it on netflix, so we did. At first it wasn't quite hitting home, especially since I seen so many of the early scenes in the trailer (why you should never watch trailers, kids), but it picked & built up to some classic moments I don't want to spoil. I recommend this movie.

I don't recall ever seeing this movie before, but I recall seeing the trailer back in the 90s as those scenes were still familiar to me as I watched this yesterday on netflix. It's a must watch, no mistake about that. So if you were like me and never seen this movie before, fix that right now.

Also, I'm not sure if this movie would have been made in today's more pc world. The racial stereotypes are through the roof. But funny as heck.

Ah yes the Wayans brothers were funny as hell and so was this Boyz n' the Hood/Menace II Society/Juice/Higher Learning spoof.

John Wick 2. It was great.

Not a movie, but just watched Childhood's End (finally sorted my Blu Ray issues) from SyFy. Not bad at all, Charles Dance takes a good part with his rich and dulcet voice being perfect for the role.

I loved the book, Arthur C Clarke really was a visionary.

I'm all about fantasy movies, but I wasn't impressed with this either. I did see that two sequels were made (although the third was only released in PAL regions, I believe), but have not tried tracking them down yet. I'll have to try to track down the second one. Don't raise my expectations too much though. :p

Heh, Don't be a Menace. That movie is not good. It has some funny moments, but I'm still not a fan. However, the first time I watched that movie was a moment to remember. I was hanging out with some people from mainland China and Taiwan who had been in the United States for less than a year and came here to learn English. They had Nexflix and wanted to watch a movie. We were browsing the movies and for some reason, came to the conclusion that we should watch this. Their reactions to everything going on in the movie were at least ten times better than anything that actually happened in the movie. Trying to describe it would do an injustice to what happened.

Great film to watch ONCE. But, the grittier these superhero films want to get, the less I want to watch them multiple times. I remember watching the first two X-Men movies at least 50 times each. Heck, even the first Wolverine solo film was fun to watch again for a Sunday matinee. The second one got gritty, I watched once at the movies, hated it, then slept through it at a hotel room while my wife watched it. This third one is even grittier. Dark. Empty of color and downright devoid of fun. Was it a good film? Yes. But, like I said, doesn't exactly scream "bring out the popcorn". Certainly not in my household.

You watched the first x-men like 50 times. Being a big fan of the cartoon, the movie was a letdown best forgotten.

1 was what jumpstarted the modern superhero genre. 2 was just a treat with Nightcrawler.

Well for me it was the worst way to jump start it. Because yeah, I'm one of those hipsters that really doesn't like the comic book movies of these days outside of something like Sin City. Imagine an X-Men movie done like Sin City, all comic book like.

I also thought the cast for X-Men was all wrong too. Like Jean Grey looked, and I'm pretty sure was, noticeable older then Scott. In the sequel they totally messed up Colossus, he should have been like how he was in Deadpool from the get go. And so on. But like I've said, I loved the cartoons as a kid and my expectations were way too high as a result.

Not liking comic book movies doesn't make you a hipster. Only a handful of them are actually any good and at least half of those are Batman movies.

Snowden (2016)

Watched this last night. I was really interested to see how it matched up to the true story, and it was actually pretty realistic, almost to a fault. Very well-acted - JGL disappears into the character. Still, I found the movie a little long, and some parts did drag a bit. Still, probably one of the most timely movies covering a very important story.

Just got back from Kong: Skull Island. Some style over substance, but great B movie style fayre.

My wife hated it.
