Also, Little Shop of Horrors.
Does your wife love Legend for the very young and cute Tom Cruise character by any chance, or does she love it for the reason I do, namely Tim Curry's scene stealing and terrifying performance as the Dark Lord? "Well, well, what do we have here? A little boy!"
Gremlins yes but not too fussed about Gremlins 2 and yes, Small Soldiers was a lot of fun. Just remembered another absolute fave of mine from that era, the wonderful Jim Henson production that is The Dark Crystal.
Dark Crystal yes, and don’t forget Labyrinth.
I don’t know why she likes Legend, I’m sure it’s not for Tom Cruise though.
Legend is legend! Also, Robert Picardo plays the swamp lady. He was in Innerspace too.
Before Voyager Picardo was the go-to guy to put in makeup and make him a monster or robot or something. He was in Total Recall as well as the robot Taxi driver.
I just watched the first Ghostbusters on Netflix. Further proof the 80s were the best decade for films ever. So many great franchises born and/or improved on.
The 80's was also a great time for remakes of 1950's sci-fi/horror classics for some reason. You had John Carpenter's remake of The Thing, which is a masterpiece, you had Cronenberg's remake of The Fly, another excellent film, and there was also a really good remake of The Blob made in the late 80's which I highly recommend.
I'm also a fan of Invaders from Mars but then again been a long time since I watched. I need to watch it again to see if it holds up. What I do remember is the practical effects were pretty good and a much-improved creature design over the original dumbass people in silly suits and a guys head in a glass dome. The 86 film I seem to remember something closer to Mother Brain from Metroid. If it's the design I remember right then I could've sworn the proper was re-used in something else later on.
Ah yes, Invaders from Mars! I forgot that one. The 80's remake of that film was, I think, directed by Tobe Hooper of Texas Chainsaw fame. I like both the original Invaders from Mars and the remake. Those people sinking into the quicksand and acting strange whenever they went over the hill to investigate really got to me as a kid.
I don't know if it was totally age-appropriate, but I used to watch Invaders From Mars ALL THE TIME when I was around ten or so.
To this day, I still relate that actress to that movie, despite the fact that she was more well-known from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Lolita.
And SegataS, that brain guy didn't remind you of Krang?
Watched Batman (1989). Jack Nicholson is still the best Joker
