The Hurt Locker. Nuff Said.
Been in the mood for Halloweeny kinda movies lately. Tonight was a deep sea double header starting with John Carpenter's The Fog and then followed by Humanoids from the deep. I first watched the fog a few years ago, and it didn't really leave much of an impression on me. I liked it a lot more this time for some reason. The music is great and overall atmosphere of the sea side town is really nice and appeals to my inner pirate.
Saw 9.
In theater 9
Paid $9
With 9 people
at 9:30.
It wasn't even 90 minutes long, but had some awesome animations. The ending was kinda underwhelming.
I saw Battlefield Earth and it makes me want go back in time and kill L. Ron Hubbard.
I'm watching Doctor X, an old 30s horror film. Eventually I'll get to watching some Super Dimension Fortress Macross, and It Came From Hollywood!
Before that I saw Fist of the North Star (anime film not live action with Gary Daniels) and Them! as well as Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II.
Them! That's the movie about the giant Ants right? The Hellraisers are always fun. I like the pin head creature with the chattering teeth. I finally got around to watching district 9. Not too shabby, not at all. Although I will have to say that Peter Jackson's original movie about aliens which came out in the 80s is way waaay better. That movie being the legendary "Bad Taste". If you liked district 9, you owe it to yourself to track down Bad Taste, and while your at it track down his other masterpiece Dead Alive. Perfect time of the year to watch both movies.
I watched François Truffaut's amazing film Last Metro. I very highly recommend it. After watching a slew of newer wannabe independent foreign films that just felt shallow this one was a breath of fresh air. If you appreciate deep and complex scenes and real in depth directing and acting this film is up there with all the greats. Truffaut is up there with some of my other favorite directors like Fellini, Tournier, and other greats.
I watched the original Psycho with a friend last night. Definitely a master piece and I love the black and white scenery. Hitchcock did a great job. I also remember liking the sequel psycho 2 a lot as just an entertaining horror movie. It doesn't match the artistic flair of the original, but it has more action and is still pretty good.
Before I went to bed I watched Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs starring a fairly young Dustin Hoffman. This movie is outstanding and one of Peckinpah's best. Every scene is very psychological and it's just a great example of good story telling. It does an amazing job depicting human nature and conflict. The woman who plays Dustin's wife is insanely good looking and I'm wondering why I have never seen her in anything else.
I watched the old spanish horror film La Noche Del Terror Ciego, or as it is known in the states Tombs of the Blind Dead. This film by Armand De Assorio is like Spain's version of Night of the Living Dead, except with the zombies replaced with unkillable skeletons of Satanic Templar Knights. Pretty good over all with some interesting filmaking and creative scenes. The film doesn't take itself all too seriously and is quite content just being a good old fashioned scary movie. It is a little Hammy but the acting is highly entertaining for it's ability to be made fun of, but it's not a complete amateur night which is good as those kind of horror movies with bad acting can sometimes be painful to watch. Definitly watch the Spanish version with subtitles over the American redubbed version as they water down the script with that one and also cut short a pretty cool lesbian scene.
Now for the bad movies I have watched recently. Perfume. This film just sucks. Its supposed to be kind of a horror hybrid about a Frenchman who is born with an incredible sense of smell, and sets out to create the world's greatest perfume using murdered virgin girls. Interesting concept I guess but I hated the film making and found it tedious. I like interesting scenes that keep your eye interested by having excellent movement to draw you in. This film kills it relying way to much on slow motion scenes of close ups on "intense" imagery. I see this stuff a lot in films today and it seems to be miss used 99% of the time. Also this entire film is set in France and about French characters, yet inexplicably all the actors are British actors using British accents. WTF?
Next I watched the Island starring Ewen Macgreggor(sp?) and Scarlett Johanson (or as they call her on ET ScarJo). This movie just flat out sucked and was a waste of time. Typical Hollywood studio style by the numbers action/drama/scifi/whatever. This film was definitely the poor man's version of Logan's Run. Logan's Run I do recommend and the chick is way hotter as well (sorry ScarJo).
Yes, this is a cool movie. I loved the ending part when the zombies invade the train. :)
Too bad all the sequels sucked balls.
IMO it was a good movie.
For pure eye candy, at least you have Rachel Hurd-Wood in it. Gosh, this lady is just drop dead gorgeous, I hope she never stops acting.
Yeah maybe I was a little hard on it, it didn't exactly fail in anyway, I just thought they should have progressed the story a little faster or edited some of the scenes to move faster. Also it just couldn't successfully suspend my disbeleif. I generally dislike movie plots involving characters that are just for some reason born special with special abilities, it feels like a crutch for the story for me. I prefer characters that are not just the best in the world at something due to being born special, but rather have more realistically developed a specialty like Gene Hackman in Francis Coppola's The Conversation. Although being born with an amazing sense of smell is somewhat believable, it just feels strangely convenient to me for some reason, like it is just a quick idea on how to make this character interesting. I did like Dustin Hoffman in this however. It felt to me like he was getting back at his character Rainman by being kinda mean and somewhat using the main character to his advantage ala Tom Cruise in Rainman. A reversal of roles of sorts. BTW Which part did she play (Rachel Hurd-Wood)? Was she the first girl he accidentally killed?
I have not yet seen the sequels to La Noche Del Terror, but it is on my list of movies to watch. Ive heard before they are not that good, but skeletons on a boat seems like something I should at least check out.

Watched She Gods of Shark Reef while I was stoned on reefer, then watched the Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy, no not the Blasphemous peace of CGI crap one that came out semi recently, but the infinitely superior 1980s BBC original show which I own on DVD. That one is almost a direct representation of the books and I actually like the acting and props and special effects way better. The segments where the guide is explaining things to you is the best. Amazing special FX.
splinter good monster movie yust like the thing

mickey good horro movie little kid who kills his foster parents
Hey Dirt Ball Gamer, ever hear of Return of the Living Dead? One awesome zombie movie with a sweet goth/punk soundtrack and some great comedy bits, and Linnea Quigley, who is quite hot in it.
