Cannonball Run
Let me share the movies I've seen today:
The Harder They Fall (1956)
Truly excellent movie. It was made in '56 but very modern looking and swiftly directed and acted. Overall a great movie that uses sport to speak about deeper issues in society.
Obvious Child (2014)
Americans and abortion. I mean what is it about them and that? I don't know if any other country debates and talks about abortion like in US. I guess it is because abortion clinics. In all other countries it is done in hospitals, but when you have a special buildings, so to speak, you're asking for it, because you know what's going on in there and when it's part of something else (like a hospital) people pretend that they don't even know it's done there.
I saw Sin City 2 and it was meh.The first one was way better.Eva Green was half naked half of the time
Last week I saw a double feature of Gone Girl and The Boxtrolls.
Gone Girl is probably the best movie I've seen so far this year. Lean, coherent and at 2:30 hours I wasn't bored for a second. It's actually one of the few movies that has made me interested in reading the book.
Meanwhile I thought The Boxtrolls was just ok. I do agree the stop motion is quite good. The characters have blemishes, lip gloss and fat tucked around their chins. Very articulate work. Compared to the other films the studio has put out I wouldn't put it up there with Coraline (which I really liked) and maybe Paranorman.
Just watched Thirteenth Warrior. It's one of the best conversions of a Michael Chriton book to movie, and extremely well acted and directed. It's one of my top twenty movies.
Jurassic Park: Better directing (can't top Speilberg), but worse acting. I also like the period feel of 13th Warrior a little more (I've ALWAYS had a thing for historical fiction, even back to grade school). Close, but 13th W wins.
Sphere: Lousy all the way around. I was rather disappointed. No contest on this one.
Disclosure: I just flat don't like these kinds of movies. Sorry, but I wouldn't watch this if you paid me... well, maybe if you paid me ENOUGH. ;) :D
Rising Sun: Not quite as bad as Disclosure, but still not a movie I care much for. I MIGHT watch this for free on cable if nothing else was on and I didn't feel like programming.
The thirteenth warrior is also a fave of mine, even with Antonio Banderas pretending to be a Persian.
This talk about The 13th Warrior inspired me to look up the ratings on the film (I have not seen it). Looks like Roger Ebert didn't really like it. Maybe he is wrong about this one?
Of the other Chriton films, Timeline was pretty underwhelming and Congo went off the rails towards the end, though Ernie Hudson was pretty entertaining.
I like the Jurassic Park films. I need to get that boxed set. West World would have to be my favorite Crichton story film :) Yule Brenner as a cowboy robot running amok is awesome.
Watched Thank you for smoking last night
Once Upon A Time In America: Extended Director's Cut.
I've watched a shit ton of movies since last I posted.
Last one I watched was:
Dracula: Untold
It was entertaining. It had everything I wanted in a popcorn flick. I would not have had it any other way.
nekromantik blu ray but after 30 minutes i shut it down and sold it what a garbage
I got the box set - I like the first, the third, and then the second in descending order.
I forgot that was even a Crichton movie... that was really awesome back when I was a kid. I'd need to see it again recently to see if it still holds up for me today.Quote:
