Interestingly enough, I heard some news yesterday. A co-worker showed me he found a boxed Commodore Plus 4 in his father's basement and wanted to sell it on ebay. After I showed him how to look up prices on ebay (completed auctions, green prices) it was only going on average $10-16. So he said "It would cost more to ship it, I'll just bring it in and give it to you instead." SWEET!
C64 was the first one for me. Then I moved to Amiga and in the early 90's to PC. Lately I've been playing Unreal and I have to say that back then 3dfx made some damn nice cards. Rather than take a dozen pictures I'll just list the current crop (I removed anything made after '00):

I remember being blown the hell away by Shadow Of The Beast on Amiga when I saw it in Chicago back in '89.
I had an IBM Compatible with a 386 with a host of Sierra games, basically Kings quests and Space Quests, OG Duke Nukem and the like. I had spent HOURS playing Wolfenstien in PC speaker glory.
I skipped over the 486 and got a Gateway Pentium 60MHZ!!! Upgraded it later on to 90MHZ and got a proper doom and other games going. Had the internet on CompuServe and thought I was the shit.
I've been pretty fortunate to not have many issues with the C-64 floppies dying out. The only one I can think of was my factory copy of Racing Destruction Set, but I had a pirated copy. There are some games out there that have saves to the floppy, that would somehow mess up the disks; those were the ones you'd want to play on a backup disk.Quote:

One of our breakrooms in the office currently holds an Atari 800XL and a C64. The latter sees much use in particular as every once in a while some of us hold a prolonged Summer Games or Winter Games session ;)
The Atari 800 XL is leaving us soon unfortunately, but since the Commodore is mine, it can stay there as long as I like. Currently we're thinking of replacing the Atari with a Dreamcast once it's gone...

The Tandy CoCo 2, and later the CoCo 3, was my childhood computer. Great machine in some ways, and programmers love the 6809 processor, but the lack of hardware sprite support basically killed my desire to write games as a kid. Dungeons of Daggorath was pretty fantastic, though.
We also had a TRS-80 Model III for a while, which I enjoyed. Still, I envied the people I knew who had Atari 8-bit, C64, etc. I coveted the TI-99/4A bigtime as a kid.
Now I have a few things: the same CoCos (one of which is broken, the other just hanging on), a TI-99/4A I got at a yard sale, a C64 from my fiancée's family, and a couple compact Macs from my family (SE, which is broken, and a Classic). I've played the C64 a fair bit, but the others not much at all, though I'd play my CoCos a lot more if they were in better shape.
Had Coleco's Adam Computer. Dad bought one in late '83 (for Christmas) after their prices were slashed due to the industry crash of that year. I no longer have it, but that thing did have some fun games with it (Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom, was decent, and I really liked a game called 'Victory.' Also, it could play all of the Atari 2600 games I had, so bonus.
The machine I'd really love to have is the Amiga 500. Most beautifully designed computer ever made (internally at least), so ahead of it's time. I used to have a 486, shame it broke down beyond repair :(.
I still have my A500. It was the most awesome computer I ever owned. The power (for the time), the incredible games (for the time), the awesome OS (for the time... although the time for THAT lasted until the late 90's when Windows and MacOS FINALLY caught up to where AmigaOS was a decade earlier), the beautiful design... the 500 was the ultimate home PC of the period from it's introduction to a almost a full decade later. :)Quote:

I'd love to own an A800 XL. To me it seems like the best platform there was before the Japanese took over. The games look fun and I like the hardware. Only the latter applies to the Amiga. The X68000 is king, though.

I still have my Apple //e, what a great computer, even if it continues to get even older.
If I could have another old, pre Mac/PC war computer, I'd want some kind of 68k Macintosh... Or heck, maybe an Amiga for the exotic adventure.
my oldest computers are a macintosh SE with a checkerboard pattern ( which is ass )
and a macintosh classic with a manky superdrive
my oldest pc is a 1998 era toshiba pentium II laptop with out an hd
im thinking of gettinga n cf adapter a cf card and running old windows and dos games off it with windows ME
( yes ME try finding win 98 drivers for that thing its damn near impossible )
Toshiba has drivers available even for their oldest machines. I wish more manufacturers did that...

Recently I started fiddling around with WinUAE and some Amiga roms. While I'm aware of how universally loved the Amiga was, you aren't really able to put it into perspective until you actually see how many games were made for it and the all the demoscene contestants
One of the main reasons why I got so invested in the Amiga was purely for the applications, but I'm having a hard time getting a lot of them working. Especially Deluxe Paint
Are old (mid 90s) Macs terrible? People talk about apple being in horrible shape back then. Did their products reflect that?
