Vay also had a strategy guide similar to that of PSII, though I think you had to mail in order it or something.
The PSII guide actually came with the game so that one is included in the list. Other strategy guides exist (Vay, Lunars, PSIII, Heimdall, etc.) but they were separate items. Might be interesting to compile a list of games that had official strategy guides too. That said, the more we add to these lists, the more I question the completeness of my Sega CD and Genesis collections. :)
the micro machines games game with scorecards so you could have a party and keep score
Yeah, every Working Designs Sega CD game had a separate guide released for it. All of them except for Popful Mail are in black and white though.
Somehow I got sidetracked updating this thread, but I've edited post #13 with the most recent posts, and added a couple bits of my own:
- Soldiers of Fortune apparently came with a map that at least had character profiles, and this post indicates it had gameplay tips as well;
- and my copy of Fantastic Dizzy includes a hint card that was apparently originally scratch-off, but was revealed by the previous owner (to my chagrin, as I saw a hint that I didn't want to see). Also, the map seemed at least a little bit useful to me.
Garfield caught in the act had a comic book of the same name with it. Not sure if it referenced the game or not though.
The PAL Comix Zone came with an audio CD including 6 songs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comix_Zone#Bonus_CD
Added Pocahontas to post #13, based on this info:

Also, did Shura no Mon come with anything? I think I remember reading that it essentially required the manga to be playable, but I don't know whether the two might've ever been bundled together (I assume not).
There are dozens of JP versions of Shining and the Darkness on eBay, but none contain anything extra aside from the usual box, cart and manual. So what is this guide mentioned in post 13?
My PAL Mega Drive game Robbedoes (aka Spirou) came with a poster. It's just art, you can see it here:

My copy of Sonic 1 came with a poster of Sonic inside the box, and another early title in my collection (I forget which, it's either Space Harrier II, Afterburner II or Rambo III or something like that) has a poster detailing games and peripherals that were available to buy for the Mega Drive circa 1991. Stuff like the arcade control stick and the Master System Power Base Converter is advertised on the poster. Now whether these were just randomly put in the games case by past owners or whether these posters originally came with early PAL Mega Drive titles I'm not sure.
Just to be clear, I'm only looking for things that can help in some way with gameplay.
I know nearly every Genesis/SCD/32X game came with some kind of poster, warranty card, mini-catalog, etc.
But -- at least in this thread -- I want to focus on items that have a direct impact on gameplay (and, sometimes, the game's playability!).
