Now I'm really tempted to play through PS4, I never did get far (how I hate random encounters and grinding).
I should try to patch the rom with a no encounter game-genie code.
I like the style, especially on Gameboy, but I was shocked in recent years of nu-Nintendo fans to see it regularly held up as a visual masterpiece which has no equal on competing consoles. It's the new DKC. The fact that both games received visually faithful versions on Gameboy somehow either escapes them or only confirms their beliefs that they are only possible on Nintendo.
What has always made Sega games and so many third party games on Sega platforms stand out, is the unique styles they often employ. For aesthetics, design and gameplay. SNES has lot's of cool exclusive RPGs, but the worldwide Genesis/Sega-CD RPG library offers experiences you can't find on SNES/SFC. There's no reason to choose between them unless you're a fanboy.
Grinding isn't really necessary in PSIV. I never found myself needing to do it. Everyone leveled up naturally as I played the game. The only time I grinded (ground?) at all was if I needed a little money to afford equipment. PSII OTOH required it so much it broke my sanity.
Yeah, PSIV goes a bit overboard with random encounters, but it never truly requires grinding for anything but some money. It's only slightly worse than FFVI in that regard. Treasure of Rudra is a lot more annoying with the random encounters than either.
Right now I just wanna play through it to experience the story, gameplay be damned.
SoA staff: OK, we removed the tit enemy. But the final boss is still left!
SoA boss: Remove it too.
SoA staff: We can't! It ruins the whole game!
SoA boss: Well then, let's just hope the most easily offended kids or their parents get that far...
Lol. Personally I never even knew about PSIV back then, so it's hard for me to imagine the game becoming hugely popular BITD, let alone controversial due to one enemy sprite.
In the years following controversies with Night Trap, Mortal Kombat, etc., I just tend to figure companies tried to avoid some potential controversy like that. Plus it might mess up the rating it had...
Sega should've advertised the Genesis as the console with tits. Would've done wonders for sales, I reckon.
"Genesis does what Nintendon't," indeed.
We should have a thread about "Genesis games with TITS!"
Here's a preliminary list :
1. Phantasy Star IV (2 accounts of tits)
2. Rings of Power (1 account of tits)
3. Stormlord (censored in western release, tits in Japan?)
4. Mystic Defender (omg full nudity, but only if you get the right ending?)
Yep, Sports and tits. Genesis is the console for manly men. While Nintendo is for babbbies.
From ブラスト処理 to ブレスト処理, it seems!
Well, first I though the Genesis really suffered in this category in comparison to the SNES (ditto for Saturn VS PS1), then I discovered the Shining series. And now I have to say Sega wins this war for both 16-Bit & 32 Bit consoles. As the Shining games are the best videogames I've played in my life (either SF3 Scenario being my fave, though, but this is Sega 16 here).
And never before have I heard of a replayable SRPG/RPG until this series. What? Chrono Trigger for multiple endings replay? Yeah right, lol. That gimick never pulled me back into that game without a tons of years in between break. And FFT SRPG best ever? lol no. More like worst ever and I wish everyone dev team would stop copying that crap as the standard. But yeah, the Shining games, Force ones in particular, have an insane amount of replay value. For like 2 years all I could play was the Shining games (with SF3 taking the bulk of it at 10 months non-stop, literally 24-7 minus the sleep & some time at the gym. No job or school to slow me down). So before I see another RPG or series (heck, even game) come close robbing me of that much time + giving me the best gaming of my life, nothing even come close to this series.
So yes, for me personally, the answer is that clear. Sega may have much fewer RPGs, but when you have the best RPG/videogame ever series on your side, how can I say Sega lost in this category? But I'll understand if others haven't discovered what joy these games are... er wait... maybe not? But that's still cool, I guess? Go play SF now!!!
That SF is the best strategy RPG series is nigh universal here lol. Final Fantasy Tactics is a Tactics Ogre clone, what's being copied is Tactics Ogre, not FFT.
If unlicensed games count, Divine Sealing stands on the titty throne of Mega Drive games. Then there are some porn mahjong games etc. from Taiwan as well. Also there is Street Fucker, I don't remember if there are tits in it though, but at least some dicks.
Yeah I quickly deleted it (but not quick enough it seems), Because I'm rrrrrrrrrreally trying not to be so sarcastic anymore.

Your quote makes it seem like I aimed the sarcastic Charlie Sheen at yoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! ;_;
Lets just not count unlicensed, it kinda defeats the point of "omg tits" if its released by someone not bound by the rules.
Best porn is sneaky porn!
Sega has always had "titties" in its console games.
Harpies and gorgons:

Argh! I finally got around to patching all three Phantasy Star games with JCE's easytype patches and I then patched all three
with a "no random encounter" game genie code. and even though it all works the game of PS4 I played didn't save!
Could be either that I did it wrong or the patches corrupted the game, did I need to press Reset instead of turn it off?
(using a Mega Everdrive btw).
ugh.. I don't rpg enough to remember this kinda stuff.
Hey, it's how I see it. I even blame that series (more then two games, by the way, even on just Genesis) for making me like RPGs way, way less then I did before. RPGs I start today almost never get finished anymore. So yeah. I'm not just saying what I said as BS. If I could turn time back and save that series for a much later date in my gaming life, I gladly would (as I look over my left shoulder I see a whole self of practically just RPGs me & my brother amased. Sigh, this curse better wear off soon >_<). ... Wait, maybe not? As I'd never of gotten into shmup genre otherwise? Which I can't believe I lived for so long without? Long live 2D scrolling shooters!!!
... But Shining Force 3 is my all time fave game ever. I love for something to replace it. But sadly it seems not to be. So until then, I'd easily trade all SNES RPGs if I had them of just one Scenario of Shining Force 3 without even blinking (only have the Japanese Scenarios + PD as of now). Doesn't mean I hate SNES RPGs, lots I'd love to own one day, but the love of one game is much better the so so love of many games. Is how I see it.
And to who said FFT is based off TO, well yeah, same guy behind both of them. So same thing to me. Just that FFT is way more well known. So I mention that.
OK, I am playing Phantasy Star IV right now and I can confirm that it rocks, tits or no tits.
Especially the music. I have actually sat around in certain areas on purpose just to jam to the music. Don't judge me.

Still the best boss theme ever.
Phantasy Star IV: Best RPG on any console in my personal opinion. Despite the fact that Final Fantasy 7 came out only a few years later on the PS1, which I also really enjoyed. I never thought It was quite as good as PSIV.
I don't think so. Replay value can't touch the Shining Force games (though they be SRPGs). And replay value is a major factor in my videogames & should be for everyone else too. Heck, even regular RPG Shining in the Darkness has more replay value. Why? Well, I play it without online maps & grid paper map making. So this really made my playthrough through this game really, really amazing for just doing this alone. As this was at a time when I was getting really bored of very simple and repetative Turn Based RPG combat (thanks to Shining Force series making it even worse). So having to train my mind to keep track of where I am, have been, and so on, really made this one of the best RPG experiences I've ever had. Plus made Turn Based combat very tolerable since it wasn't the main gameplay feature anymore. ... I recall the first time I tried to play this game, that by the time I finally got to my first random battle and seen my menu selection, I didn't make a move and said "No way. I can't do this." And shut the game off for quite some time. ... Oh yeah, about why it has hight replay; Well, when I get back to it, I won't remember the layouts at all, so it'll all be fresh to me again. Joy!
Actually, SitD was one Shining game I thought for the longest time that I'd never be able to play through. Luckily I really pushed myself to play through it one day, since it turned out into on of my best RPG experiences ever.
But I will say this of PSIV. It is a good RPG nonetheless. However I didn't think much of it at all the first time I played it & couldn't figure out why everyone thought of it so highly? But when I played it again much later & after I finally played through PS1... man, did playing PS1 ever add to the storyline & game enjoyment. Need to push myself through part II & III one day and see if it further adds to the storyline of part IV? But yeah, I'm now a believer of this game & this series now.
Another thing. PSIV having really fast turn based battles is a major plus in my opinion. Making turn based battles much more tolerable. Cause man, so many RPGs have such slow ass turn based battles that I can't keep at them for much longer.
Not sure if I will, but I've actually been thinking about going through Phantasy Star II again. I remember how dark some of the events in that game gets. I mean there's a friggin murder-suicide early on(Sega does what Square don't :p). If that's ever been revisited in gaming I imagine it was better illustrated since this was practically text only, but still from '89 reading the description of that kind of event in a video game...
PSII can be a bit rough. The translation is passable, but nothing special, and the random battles do drag on more than in IV. It's also far more grindy. Still, there is a certain feeling of accomplishment when you do complete it, for lack of a better term.
Me too, PS IV > FF 7.
And grinding is never good Thief, there is no "grinding done right". It's boring repetitive work designed to artificially lengthen a game. The only grinding done right is the one you don't even notice it's there, like PS IV's, or the one you actually have some fun doing, like in an action RPG.
Before PSIV, I had never played any RPG before. Then one day in 1996 I bought it and was really impressed by the story, the characters, gameplay and the sound. I replayed the game many, many times in those days. I then went through a phase where I sought out every RPG I could find like the Shining Force series, Which I enjoyed but lacked that certain something that made me really love it.
I know many won't agree with my thoughts. But for me personally, because I had never experienced anything like it before. Phantasy Star IV will always remain my personal favourite RPG of all time.
