Is this a proper clone? Eg, it has an M68000 and z80 inside, or is this a system on a chip affair?
Has anyone got one of these in their collection, and are they any good?

Also, does this accept standard MD pads? Its hard to tell what the connector is like on the end of the controller.

I got one of those, a tpyical single chip clone (but not really a too bad one)
Like TmEE said, this is a GOAC-based clone. It does still have all the components of a Genesis, but they're all integrated within a single chip (though some GOACs require external RAM chips).
Now, normally, these Geniclones should be able to take Genesis controllers, be it off-brand controllers or original Sega controllers. What I would be curious to see is the GOAC within the clone. Some are half-assed designs, but there are some that are pretty much 1:1 copies of the Genesis with absolutely nothing missing, meaning the cartridge slot has all the signals wired (whether the audio inputs from pins B1 and B3 on the cartridge slot are wired to the audio amp is another story as generally, they're not) and they might even have RGB outputs, something which I have yet to see on many GOACs as they typically output Composite right from the GOAC itself (though I've seen some with S-Video outputs rather than a Composite output).
Wow that looks pretty slick! Almost like it better than the official genesis 3, with its bland all-black color scheme, and goofy big "3" on top.
Not to mention putting X at the end of the name automatically makes it cooler.
GOAC = Genesis on a chip?
Is there a reason why clones are not made with the original chips? Price or availability maybe?
I can't imagine what a white case would look like after I have carried it all over creation. I'll stick with black.

My interpretation of Genesis clones are as such.
Type 1 - A 'like for like' clone. EG SCORPION XVI which I believe has a clone M68000 and z80.
Type 2 - GOAC - Genesis on a chip. - Is this roughly a full design of all components and processors in one single chip?
Do these perform virtually as well as an original genesis / megadrive? Can a megadrive / genesis veteran tell the difference between this, and original hardware?
Type 3 Crappy Atgames consoles (emulators in a box) - Am I right about this? The AtGames systems are one to avoid?

AtGames crappy Firecore clones are definitely the worst of the bunch.
That's what I call a "full-motherboard clone." The only cloned parts are the custom Sega ASICs and the YM2612. The 68000 is real (an actual Motorola 68000) as is the Z80 (though most of the time, I see Goldstar Z80s in full-motherboard Geniclones instead of Zilog Z80s).Quote:

One thing to note is that it seems the vast majority of GOACs are based off a TecToy GOAC design, in particular the TecToy-580G, which is a damn fine GOAC, though there are some rather half-assed GOACs out there like the TCT-6705 (LOTS of missing signals and the aforementioned non-working Master System video mode switch) and the TCT-6801 (more missing signals and Virtua Racing just doesn't work on this GOAC no matter what you do).
The AtGames systems are running software emulation on a Titan ARM core, and it is BAD! I intentionally purchased an AtGames Geniclone (Genesis Arcade Motion Dual) to see how bad the system is in person... ugh... if you see an AtGames Geniclone, RUN! It's already bad in videos, but in person... oh my GOD! It's the single most horrific experience I've ever had playing Genesis games. It's actually FAR worse in person than on a video. Don't go anywhere NEAR an AtGames Geniclone unless you want to join me in getting such clones to show people just how much of a pile of shit they are so they turn to better Geniclones or a pre-VA7 Genesis Model 1.Quote:

I'm sure the molds are still around, they probably weren't cheap to produce and it's not a big deal for a molding company to keep them around in inventory in case they are wanted again.
