Will the Wii U die even quicker than the Wii?

If we can be fair though, how soon after release do we see a big name 360/PS3 release substantially discounted on a permanent basis? One thing is certain this generation: Being patient normally results in substantial savings with the exception of Nintendo's first party titles. 360/PS3/Wii, sitting tight usually saves decent coin.

Friend codes, lack of communication, etc.., all matter when playing team oriented games. Goldeneye was a good offering on the Wii but Nintendo decided to play the babysitter once again.

Sin & Punishment should have sold at least a couple 100K though. If there are than many hard-core gamers that bought the console, the reputation of the N64 title alone should have provided some kind of interest from that demographic of gamer.

Dead Space was a pretty good seller on the 360 and PS3, yet Extraction on the Wii didn't sell well at all. It was an exclusive to the Wii for quite some time, before getting a port on PSN.

Almost 800K units between both titles is certainly disappointing but I'm at the point where I'm willing to blame Nintendo's follies more so then the game(s) itself or the individual gamer. Forget how conservative Nintendo acted with the Wii. Forget the friend-codes. Forget the lack of power with the console itself. Many games are never on the shelves long enough to show off its legs (if it has any). The shot callers at Nintendo are unaware of conspicuous consumption.

I would definitely play more Wii games if it weren't for the tacked-on motion controls. At least the DS was a novelty that worked well for a portable, but to keep arms stretched for hours during playing a game is just not good design ethic. I'm so cynical towards the tablet thingy, so if the WiiU flopped the industry wouldn't lose much really.

Anyone here not really glad the Kinect flopped as hard as it did?

I wonder what Wii games everyone else is playing, because when I play Wii, my arms are at rest most of the time.

Well, it was only sold in Japan. The N64 didn't sell as well as the Saturn there, but even the Saturn was able to manage 100K of Radiant Silvergun. You would think that a console that had a userbase of over 90 million could manage to sell 200k of Sin & Punishment: Star Successor worldwide.

And it turns out that it did indeed sell 370K, with 160k being sold in North America.

But, Dead Space Extraction sold ever so slightly better with a majority of its sales in North America. Still, Dead Space 2 sold a couple of million in less than a couple of weeks on the 360/PS3/PC.

Last time I checked Nintendo weren't using gimmicks back in the early 90s now, were they? ;)

Obviously I was talking about after the GameCube; doing a standard machine didn't work well for them, so they turned to a pimped out GC with motion controls as their next console (gimmick #1). Then they released the DS with it's dual screens (gimmick #2), then the 3D-dual screened 3DS (gimmick #3) and now it's the WiiU, with it's tablet controller (gimmick #4). They can't keep using gimmicks to sell their machines forever. Sorry, but that's a fact. The public will eventually tire of it.

Let's not forget there'll always be the rabid fanbase that would buy tilted shit if it had N on the cover, but those alone aren't enough to sustain a multi-billion yen company.

And about motion controls, can you honestly say that you play it comfortably as if you were a standard gamepad? All that pointing and tilting and shaking, bah it's less immersive than a public toilet. I would have been less critical of the Weewee if it had had a standard controller packed-in so that developers supported both methods.

Mode 7 and horribly memory crippled exclusive sample based audio was a gimmick. So were all of the incremental upgrades to the Gameboy line. ;)

I honestly wonder if you've ever actually sat down and given a Wii game a proper play, other than Wii Sports. It does not take broad movements to aim at the screen; a tilt of the wrist will do.

I sure can't imagine playing Trauma Center with an analog stick (and after playing it on Wii, it's hard to even go back to the DS version). Sure there have been some games that use the Wii controller poorly, but there have also been games that use it very well, and there are also some very good games that work well with the classic controller.

The point is that we've listened to these same predictions decades ago. Xmas of 1990 was supposed to be the last because the NES was competing with the Genesis. Besides the Virtual Boy I can't think of anything else which flopped. Somehow the cards just seem to fall in the right places when it comes to Nintendo consoles.

The same goes for the "rabid" fanbases of Medal of Honor/Call of Duty/Halo/etc, they'll buy any machine that shit comes out for. How are Nintendo's customers any worse, because they annoy you on the internet?

The Wii ought to have packed in a standard pad or the Wiimote have incorporated another button reachable in classic position. Nonetheless I can honestly say yes, it's very comfortable, the split between nunchuk and remote is sometimes preferable to keeping both hands together--there's even a PS3 3rd party controller that imitates this, designed for FPS games (it might not be PS3 exclusive). Games as different as Mario Galaxy and Star Successor are comfortable for any length of time with the nunchuk and remote. Games that use only the remote in its normal position are of course perfectly fine--I assume you're not going to fault tvs their control method. And games that use the remote in classic position plus tilting or shaking are also perfectly comfortable and accurate: the Kororinpas, Mercury Meltdown, DKC Returns, Fluidity; Sonic and the Secret Rings has some trouble with the trampoline parts but that's just Sega.
FWIW there are plenty of standard gamepads I hate to use.

I was thinking about buying a Wii U and selling that motherfucker for 600 dollars :D But I have know clue on the demand and the last time I tried something like this with a Wii back in Christmas of 07 it didn't work out really well.

The key difference between now and then is they weren't using gimmicky bullcrap to sell their consoles; now they do. And I would hardly say the "cards fell into the right places" with the GameCube and N64; if it not for the Wii, they would of gone the same way as Sega. If anything, all they're doing now is playing a game of cat and mouse.
