Super Nintendo Love/Hate Relationship

So as this is primarily a classic Sega forum, how do you describe your "relationship" with the SNES? What are some reasons you like it and what are the reasons you don't? I see alot of bashing to it on here, but I myself am not entirely adversive to it. In fact I would say that I too am in the camp that feels alot of the best 16-bit RPGs were on SNES (with Turbo-CD being a close second) as its one of my favorite genres. Hard to argue otherwise, even with Square/Enix stuff aside, especially if you count the import games. And although I do love Phantasy Star beside some random Genesis RPGs, I strongly prefer my action-games on Genesis/MD better since it is obviously the definitive 16-bit action-arcade platform.

So where do you stand on this?

I like SNES a lot as I grew up with neither the SNES nor the Genesis so I'm experiencing them both right now. I like Genesis more but there are many good games on SNES I love.

I have always loved the SNES. I had it alongside my TG16 and Genesis back in the day, and it's one of my all-time favourite systems. The only "hate" part is directed at its fanboys. The internet is chock full of Nintendo bias and decreasing respect for classic Sega among other developers but I'm sure most people posting here would already be aware of that.

While I agree with the general sentiment that the SNES was the best RPG system of the 16-bit console era, I don't think the Genesis was that far behind for what was available in English if we include SRPGs, WRPGs, and Sega CD stuff.

SNES was a great system with a good library so i actually kinda feel bad for not being more up to speed on it. Same story back in the day....

I bought an SNES on its Christmas launch then next year i got a Genesis on Christmas, and became a Sega fanboy and never looked back. It was my bros that primarily bought games for the system after that.

I've owned a SNES since around 2002 and wouldn't want to be without one. Back in the day I borrowed a SNES from a buddy whatever chance I got. After Super Mario Kart and Star Fox came out I had a good deal of SNES envy, but the Sega CD and then 32X effectively curbed that. I own about thirty games I can't get anywhere else than the SNES that keeps it on my shelf. I prefer Action games, so I prefer the PC-Engine DUO over the SNES and neither really touch the Genesis in that category.

I do think that the console and its library are entirely overrated to the point of absurdity today.

I am afraid to touch them. Does it have leprosy? Is that contagious? I do not know!

I enjoy not having a horrible skin-eating disease, so unfortunately I will never play a Super Nintendo. I do not want to risk my pets, family, and other consoles either.

What's not to like? I love the Genesis and it's all I had during the 16 bit era. Now that I own a SNES, I've effectively doubled the number of 16bit games I get to play. The math is simple. More 16-bit games. More 16-bit fun. More 16-bit awesomeness.

Only retards still play the "console wars" game. The SNES is an awesome system. Everyone who likes 16bit gaming should have one.

It's my second favorite video game system of all time. There's nothing to hate about both the MD and SNES other than the fucktard ignorant fan boys that both systems have to deal with.

SNES is an excellent system. Kind of ignorant of the library to really think anything else of it. Definitely a Top 3 System of all-time with the Genesis.

Hate = Nintendo cheaped out on the base system and abandoned the CD module it appears to have been designed for from the outset. Games like Rapid Reload should have been the standard. Also the most real world popular games (ie not those for internet fetishists) are those I tend to dislike; the MD's the opposite case. Its brawlers are mostly garbage.

Love = It's a good counterpart to the MD. The MD is certainly the better, for me at a 7:3 ratio, as it simply has the best 16 bit games, but the SNES is in many ways more intriguing--the MD never surprises me. An audio system capable of natural sounding instruments is a strength and its controller suits me the best of that era. It was far and away the best 16 bit racing console.

I seriously couldn't care less about its noisy internet advocates, nobody who was around during the 16 bit era despises Sega the way our local Sega apologists make out, and Sega's reputation after the 16 bit era was well earned by Sega itself.

What's NOT to love about the SNES? Great RPGs, great first party titles, and great color display!

The Snes is like the PSX to me.There were a few good games, but no where as much as people made claimed.Not a bad system, just extremely overrated, not as bad as the PSX though.

I haven't touched mine since I beat Super Metroid. I wish the controller was better.
