Now all we need is a time machine, and the ability to track down a prototype/test model, and we can put the discussion to rest!

There we go, that EGM "expose" that Thunderblaze posted is the one I was thinking of. The CPU specs indicate they were looking at the SFX chip, or something similar, as the central processor. The development time of the SFX chip would have perfectly overlapped the time the SNES CD would have been released. Obviously the original SFX chip wasn't 21Mhz, but they were aiming for that result.
I think they both look goofy. Electronics should be black for one. Beige that turns puke yellow is a stupid color for two. Then there's the shape, but actually every Nintendo console save the N64 doesn't look like a game console to me.
So there are no reasons, it's just because people say so? That's not a reason...
I do think that the N64 is Nintendo's best-looking console, but the other Nintendo systems "don't look like consoles"? What? That's not true at all...
(Also, my SNES hasn't yellowed, thankfully.)
I will never understand why people argue about the aesthetics of game consoles. The SNES may be a bit lame-looking with its purple buttons, but who cares?
I didnt care for the looks of the snes model 1 but I did like the looks of the mini snes model 2.
My SNES hasn't yellowed, and it's an original from 1991!
A toaster typically operates by heating two pieces of bread vertically; the NES loads horizontally, so a toaster OVEN would be a more accurate comparison. Unless you have a Nin-toaster like the AVGN...
Also, the N64 is my least favorite Nintendo console, aesthetically and graphically.
I was trying to be nice. The NES looks like a VCR that doesn't have the mechanism for loading its own media. I have never owned a toaster that forced me to push my fingers in and then down to make anything happen. Nothing but the NES requires such an action.
I agree partially on the N64 as well. I prefer the NES, SNES and Gamecube graphically and audibly to the N64.
