I prefer Harmony of Dissonance over Circle of the Moon.
It's a great game, but it just didn't have that polish that CotM had.The castle and music are great though.
Yeah, people hated on the use of the simpler chiptunes, but I liked it, the compositions were all excellent.I like it better than AoS, they seemed to concentrate too much on aesthetics on that one.
The Castlevania GBA games are rather dull. The first one feels amateurish, the second generic, and the third is an out-right yaoi simulator. I have no idea how Castlevania turned into gay porn for Deviant Art teenage girls.
The DS ones are better, although the first two suffer from a bad anime art style. The third game fixes it, but it still lacks in comparison to SotN's art style.
Also Zero Mission is far better than Super Metroid! Super Metroid is clunky.
I can't agree with you on all the DS games.Dawn of Sorrow was just as boring as Aria, and while Portrait of Ruin was good, the maps were dull in my opinion.Order of Ecclesia is amazing, and is damn near perfect, I just wished they stuck with a single castle format.OoE's art is far superior to SotN, you complain about anime art style then praise SoTN.OoE is a more realistic European art style and is much better.Zero Mission while fun is too easy in my opinion, that's why I prefer Super Metroid.
I'll also say that I really like Circle of The Moon. I never got too far because it was hard for me back in the day, and there were always other things I felt like playing, but some time soon I want to buy a copy (only played it through emulation years ago). I kinda like the simpler graphics, which more resemble a SNES game or something, and it has one of my favorite soundtracks in the series. I agree with everything Curryman123 said about it.
I got further in Harmony of Dissonance, but I never really liked it. Some may disagree, but I think art direction and sound really play a large part in most games. I feel Harmony of Dissonance failed on both fronts. The graphics are very drab, and the music is forgetful and both have a rather depressing feel that I don't care for. It's not even the 8-bit sound of the music, it's just the tunes are monotonous and droning.
Aria of Sorrow is better than HoD, but I like the atmosphere and music of CoTM better still.
No way. The linearity of Zero Mission kills it for me (at least Fusion has a nice story and is a new game).
I thought Harmony of Dissonance was completely lame and derivative. The Alucard wanna-be-ness of the main character really ruined that game for me. Aria of Sorrow was a huge improvement and I really liked Circle of the Moon. One of these days I'll play it again and see if it still holds up.
I'm also glad to see that I was not the only one who was less than impressed by Dawn of Sorrow. It was the worst of the three DS titles, for certain.
This thread made me walk down to the local used game store and see if they had any of the GBA Castlevania games for sale. They sadly didn't, but the girl behind the counter told me that she could check the stock of their other locations and if they happened to have one, it could be sent to that location for my convenience. Turns out one of them had Circle of the Moon for 6 bucks, and I should be able to pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. Really excited to play it again! I haven't played any games since I moved, really.
Dawn of Sorrow could not keep my interest at all, I think I only got about 2 or 3 hours in before I dropped it. Same with Portrait of Ruin. I liked the art style of all the GBA games, to be honest; I thought they were much better than the generic as hell anime style used in DoS and PoR.
Regarding Circle of the Moon: I will admit. I never finish the game but I did enjoyed it when playing it.
The main thing I didn't like about Harmony was the two identical castles. It made for too many boring fill-in-the-map moments. I also didn't care much for the control scheme, the buttons felt wasted. Still, a good game, just my least favorite of the GBA ones.
I liked Harmony, But there are some flaws. The areas are huge, and nothing really happens in them. You run through a long corridors while fighting few weak enemies on the way. Also, it has no secret rooms, which was a major tur off for me.
I still enjoy it though...after all, it is CV in 2d.
One of the coolest things in HoD.I remember staying in the room to stare at the effect.
