Seeing as a few peeps got their knickers in a twist over in the "shumup" thread, I'd thought I'd make this thread.
Same as the other one, just list what you would say is your top three favourite run and gunners.
And just for clarification so we can avoid what's been said before:
Run & gunner: Run around and blow shit up, ala Gunstar Heroes.
Shumup: Fly around and blow shit up, ala Thunder Force.

I'm of the school of thought that Contra: Hard Corps is the highest quality Run N Gun on the Genesis. But just because it's too damn impossibly hard, it has moved to the bottom of my list.
My favorites right now:
1. Gunstar Heroes
2. Tom Mason's Dinosaurs for Hire
3. Robocop vs. The Terminator
(I used to include Vectorman and Earhworm Jim in there, but I don't want to get another flame war started ;).

(Some say it's a shmup, others say it's outside the boundaries of that genre, so why not call it an overhead run 'n' gun where you happen to be a ship?)

Gunstar Heroes is not in my top 3 because the game just didnt connect with me for some reason. Alien Soldier I never got used to the controls and it was maybe too many boss battles. I admit I havent spent a ton of time with those two so perhaps if I did play them a lot more than could be in my top 3.
