I know my modems never got to speeds that high, unless 56K was actually 56 Kilobits, then that would make more sense.
It's kilobits, internet speeds are always in bits.
I still find that horribly annoying... Measuring speeds in bits is just like cartridges, only done to make the speeds sound bigger than they really are.
But if you're on limited bandwidth, your downloads and files are measured in bytes, so if you're not aware, you could confuse your internet speeds with bytes and end up going over your limit...
